Communications Technician

The County of Marin is seeking a Communications Technician for the Telecommunications Division within the Department of Public Works. This position is responsible for maintaining public safety communications systems, including radio, cellular, and microwave networks. The technician will independently perform troubleshooting procedures and repairs on County equipment and vehicles, and may need to make emergency repairs and maintenance in the field at any time.

The ideal candidate will have experience working with complex systems including computers, networks, radios, and electronics. They will have personal and professional integrity, be highly organized, possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills, approach their work with enthusiasm, and demonstrate a strong commitment to customer service. Certifications in electronic theory, computer networking and server administration, and security are highly desirable. This job class requires travel between various County and business-related locations, including off-road and remote sites. Employees who drive on County business to carry out job-related duties must possess a valid California driver's license for the class of vehicle driven and meet automobile insurability requirements of the County, including review of a recent DMV history.

Special requirements include passing a Department of Justice and FBI LiveScan background check prior to appointment. All County of Marin employees are designated Disaster Service Workers through state and local law (California Government Code Section 3100-3109). Employment with the County requires the affirmation of a loyalty oath to this effect. Employees are required to complete all Disaster Service Worker-related training as assigned, and to return to work as ordered in the event of an emergency.
