This floating Phlebotomist role serves multiple patient service centers across South Brooklyn, performing high-volume blood draws and specimen processing while delivering excellent patient care. You will work with a diverse, primarily adult patient population, accurately collect and process specimens, and maintain precise electronic records in a fast-paced outpatient environment. This position offers competitive pay and the opportunity to contribute to one of the largest diagnostic laboratory networks in the country.

Responsibilities

• Greet patients upon arrival and perform accurate data entry of patient information into the internal system.
• Perform 20–40 blood draws per day using straight needles and butterfly needles, ensuring patient comfort and safety.
• Collect and store blood and other specimens according to established procedures and test requirements.
• Label specimens accurately, and prepare them by centrifuging, splitting, and freezing as required by specific test orders.
• Process specimens, including handling, organizing, and preparing them for transport or analysis in accordance with laboratory protocols.
• Record maintenance data and follow decontamination procedures to maintain a clean and safe work area.
• Update and maintain patient records in the internal system after each interaction, ensuring information is current and accurate.
• Demonstrate proper phlebotomy techniques using straight needles and butterfly needles in line with company standards.
• Multi-task effectively by managing patient flow, specimen processing, and documentation in a busy patient service center.
• Provide strong, courteous customer service to all patients, including adults and geriatric patients, and address questions or concerns professionally.
• Follow all established safety, quality, and compliance procedures in the collection and handling of specimens.
• Participate in training and take on additional tasks such as accessioning and other laboratory support duties as assigned.

Essential Skills

• At least 2 years of hands-on phlebotomy experience.
• Proficiency and full comfort using straight needles for venipuncture.
• Demonstrated experience performing high-volume blood draws (approximately 20–40 draws per day).
• Strong data entry skills and ability to accurately enter and update patient information in computer systems.
• Ability to multi-task effectively in a fast-paced clinical or laboratory environment.
• Strong customer service skills with the ability to interact professionally and compassionately with patients.
• Detail-oriented approach to labeling, processing, and storing specimens according to established procedures.
• Experience with venipuncture and blood collection techniques, including use of butterfly needles.
• Ability to follow specimen processing protocols, including centrifuging, splitting, and freezing specimens.
• Comfort working with an adult and geriatric patient population.
• Minimum of a high school diploma or GED (or equivalent).
• Ability to work assigned schedules that include Saturdays.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Experience as a Phlebotomy Technician (Phleb Tech) or Medical Assistant (MA) with phlebotomy responsibilities.
• Experience working in a patient service center or outpatient laboratory setting.
• Familiarity with centrifuges and standard laboratory equipment used in specimen processing.
• Customer-facing experience in healthcare or diagnostic laboratory environments.
• Bilingual communication skills are a plus.
• Knowledge of CPT-related processes and test ordering workflows is beneficial.
• Experience working with geriatric patients is an advantage.
• No phlebotomy certification is required, but any related certifications are considered a plus.

Work Environment

This is a float position covering multiple patient service centers within the South Brooklyn area. Primary locations include sites on East 12th Street, Ocean Avenue, Kings Highway, and Avenue D in Brooklyn. Phlebotomists typically see approximately 30–50 patients per day in outpatient patient service centers, working with about 80% adult patients, including geriatric individuals. The environment is fast-paced and requires consistent interaction with patients, use of computer systems for data entry and record updates, and regular handling of specimens using equipment such as centrifuges. Various part-time style schedules are available, generally within weekday morning to early afternoon hours and every Saturday from approximately 8:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., or Tuesday through Saturday in similar time frames. The role requires moving between designated locations within the territory as needed, adhering to standard clinical attire and safety protocols appropriate for a diagnostic laboratory setting.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Brooklyn, NY.

The pay range for this position is $25.00 - $26.00/hr.
