Veterinary Technician - Lead

Veterinary Technician - Lead Full-time, 12-hour shifts. Location: Rockville, MD. Metropolitan Animal Emergency and Specialty Center, a Thrive Pet Healthcare partner, is looking for a Lead Veterinary Technician to join our team. You will receive support, tools, and resources to advance your skills in a local community hospital with national benefits. About You You play an important role in pets’ lives by providing comprehensive care throughout their journey. Your work includes hands-on care, facilitating outpatient treatments, performing laboratory tests, assisting in surgeries, and providing support services including admitting and discharging patients. Experience & Skills Requirements Veterinary technician licensure strongly preferred but not required; LVT/CVT/RVT/LVMT encouraged to apply. 2-3 years of clinical experience as a veterinary technician or assistant required. Must have emergency veterinary clinical experience. Strong communication skills required. Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree from an AVMA-accredited veterinary technology program preferred; equivalent education and experience acceptable. Proficient in phlebotomy and laboratory sample preparation, including blood, feces, urine, and skin. Confident in IVC placement and maintenance. Proficient in blood smears, cytology preparation, and interpretation. Familiar with common radiographic positioning techniques and image capture. Familiar with CPR; candidates with RECOVER BLS/ALS certification encouraged to apply. Experienced in administering anesthesia and monitoring patients during anesthetic events. Role Responsibilities Support veterinarians to ensure quality veterinary care, advocate for pets, and educate clients. Assist the medical team in maximizing productivity and maintaining positive patient flow. Assist with surgeries and procedures in accordance with state Veterinary Practice Act for credentialed veterinary technicians. Communicate with clients about individualized pet health concerns and provide guidance on membership options, medications, and additional treatments. Maintain comprehensive medical records with practice systems. Obtain health history and information from clients and maintain medical charts. Use safe restraining techniques, follow standard protocols, and maintain clean, sterile, organized treatment areas, exam rooms, and labs. Guide, mentor, and support fellow team members.
