Job Title: Classroom Teacher Exempt: Yes Salary Level: Certified Salary Schedule Location: Assigned School Term of Employment: In accordance with current school calendar Reports To: Building Principal Position Level: Date approved Summary: Creates a flexible elementary grade program and a class environment favorable to learning and personal growth; establishes effective rapport with pupils; motivates pupils to develop skills, attitudes and knowledge needed to provide a good foundation in accordance with each pupil’s ability; establishes good relationships with parents and with other staff members. Supervises: Instructional Assistant (if applicable) Required Qualifications: Appropriate Arizona Elementary Teacher Certification Meets Criteria of Appropriately Certified Minimum of a Provisional SEI or ESL Endorsement Arizona Fingerprint Clearance Card Citizenship, residency or work visa required Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Demonstrates teaching skills and knowledge in assigned academic area, utilizing course of study adopted by the Governing Board and other appropriate learning activities. Instructs pupils in basic subject matter specified in state law and administrative regulations and procedures of the school district. Develops lesson plans and instructional materials and provides individualized and small group instruction to adapt the curriculum to the needs of each pupil and to best utilize available classroom time for instructional purposes. Prepares current schedules, lesson plans and seating charts for use by a guest teacher. Evaluates pupil’s academic and social growth, maintains permanent academic and attendance records, and prepares progress reports. Maintains confidentiality of each student’s record. Establishes and maintains lines of communication with students and parents on a regular basis. Communicates with parents to discuss pupils’ progress, particular needs or difficulties encountered in the school program; treats parents with respect when reviewing a child’s problems or progress. Diagnoses pupil needs; uses appropriate methods to provide instruction to meet those needs and assists pupils in solving learning and attitude problems. Seeks assistance of specialists or district resources to determine learning difficulties of students and appropriate services. Maintains a learning atmosphere by creating an effective environment for learning through functional and attractive displays, bulletin boards and interest centers to meet physical and psychological requirements of the students. Maintains professional competence by participating in classes, workshops and other growth activities. Selects and requisitions instructional aids and materials; maintains required inventory records. Instructs assigned classes in locations and at the times designated by the principal/supervisor, reports for duty and other assignments on time, and supervises pupils in out-of-classroom activities during the assigned working day. Establishes and maintains management and control of students in the classroom or under supervision. Develops and explains rules for classroom discipline and consistently maintains discipline in the classroom. Takes reasonable precautions to protect students’ safety, welfare and district property. Disciplines students in a fair and impartial manner, following district policies regarding the rights of students. Maintains professional competence through in‑service education activities provided by the District and/or self‑selected professional activities and attends required staff meetings and trainings. Assists in implementing policies, administrative regulations and procedures established by the Governing Board, district administration and unit school principal. Assists other personnel as may be required for the purpose of supporting them in the completion of their work activities; assists other teachers for the purpose of implementing curriculum. Collaborates with school personnel, parents and various community agencies for improving student outcomes, developing solutions and planning curriculum. Directs student workers, volunteers, etc. to maximize their efficiency and meet work requirements. Reports incidents (e.g., fights, suspected child abuse, suspected substance abuse) to maintain personal safety of students, provide a positive learning environment and adhere to Education Code, administrative and/or school policies. Performs such other duties and assumes such responsibilities as may be assigned by the Superintendent/Designee. Evaluation: Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board policy or evaluation of professional personnel. Language Skills: Ability to read, analyze and interpret education materials and programs; write reports, procedure manuals and correspondence; effectively present information and respond to questions from teachers, students, administration and community. Communicates aims and/or objectives to students in a well‑planned, organized manner using clear and precise language. Mathematical Skills: Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference; apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios and proportions to practical situations. Physical Demands: Requires talking and hearing; sitting for extended periods; moving from one location to another; reaching, stooping, kneeling, crouching, bending and holding objects; occasionally lifting or moving up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus. Work Environment: Primarily in an indoor temperature‑controlled setting with periods in an outdoor setting. Noise level is usually moderate.
