LEAD ESTIMATOR - INDUSTRIAL MECHANICAL CONTRACTING

We are seeking a dynamic and experienced Lead Estimator to join our industrial mechanical contracting team. In this pivotal role, you will lead the estimation process for complex industrial projects, ensuring accurate cost projections and competitive pricing strategies. Your expertise will drive project profitability and support our commitment to delivering high-quality mechanical solutions across various industrial sectors. As a Lead Estimator, you will collaborate closely with project managers, clients, and subcontractors to develop comprehensive estimates that align with project scope, schedule, and budget expectations. Responsibilities

• Lead the development of detailed cost estimates for industrial mechanical projects, including material, labor, equipment, and subcontractor costs.
• Review construction drawings, blueprints, and technical specifications to interpret project requirements accurately.
• Utilize estimating software and other construction management tools to prepare comprehensive bids.
• Manage the estimation process from initial concept through final bid submission, ensuring all aspects of the project are accounted for.
• Collaborate with clients and internal teams to negotiate pricing, scope adjustments, and contract terms to secure profitable projects.
• Oversee material cost estimating by analyzing blueprints and technical drawings to determine quantities and requirements.
• Monitor project budgets during the bidding phase to ensure estimates align with company standards and market conditions.
• Coordinate with procurement teams to verify material availability and pricing accuracy for upcoming projects.
• Review construction contracts thoroughly to identify risks, scope changes, or contractual obligations that impact estimates.
• Lead efforts in cost management and control throughout the project lifecycle to maximize efficiency and profitability.

Skills

• Extensive experience managing projects as a construction estimator within the industrial mechanical or heavy industry sectors.
• Proficiency in estimating software such as HeavyBid, Bluebeam, Xactimate, along with construction management software tools.
• Strong ability in blueprint reading, interpreting technical drawings, and reviewing construction documents accurately.
• Excellent negotiation skills to secure favorable pricing and contractual terms with clients and subcontractors.
• Skilled in using Microsoft Office Suite including spreadsheets for data analysis and presentation purposes.
• Deep understanding of construction industry practices related to cost control, material estimating, and budgeting for commercial projects.
• Proven track record in managing multiple estimates simultaneously while maintaining accuracy under tight deadlines.
• Strong communication skills for effective client interaction and team collaboration across project phases.
• Knowledge of contracts management processes within the construction industry environment.
• Construction site experience is preferred to better understand field conditions impacting estimates.

Requirements

• 10+ years industrial mechanical estimating experience.
• Ability to interpret P&IDs, isometrics, and equipment data sheets.
• Experience with shutdowns/turnarounds.
• Strong communication and client-facing skills.
• Occasional travel to site location(s) and/or Corporate office.
