Description:

The Clinical Nurse II is an RN that practices as a full partner on the health care team. This position consistently demonstrates safe practice within the organizational professional practice model. The Clinical Nurse II possesses the knowledge, skills, and attitude necessary to meet standards for competent professional nursing practice. The role exhibits organizational core values which reflect its mission. The Clinical Nurse II independently provides patient care through the application of the nursing process. This nurse accepts accountability for the nursing care of assigned patients, which may range in age from infancy to adult. The Clinical Nurse II demonstrates competency in patient and family-centered care. This includes recognizing the patient or the patient's designee as the source of control and a full partner in providing compassionate and coordinated care. The Clinical Nurse II manages complex patient care assignments appropriate to skill level. Participation in building consensus and resolving conflict in the context of patient care is expected. The nurse is able to see the big picture and uses clinical experience to develop and refine practice. There is an emphasis on engaging in problem solving to ensure the delivery of safer, high-quality, patient-and-family-centered care. Safety is prioritized by minimizing risk of harm to patients and providers through system effectiveness and individual performance. The nurse serves as a resource for safety concerns and demonstrates skills in problem solving, conflict resolution, and negotiation. Participation in analyzing errors and designing system improvements is also required. The Clinical Nurse II is expected to evaluate and integrate current evidence with clinical expertise and patient/family preferences for the delivery of optimal health care.
