Senior Food Safety Specialist

Job Description The Scientist Food Safety provides deep technical leadership to develop, maintain and proactively improve Mars Petcare Quality and Food Safety programs. Under the supervision of the Site Q&FS Manager, this role provides technical expertise and a practical food safety approach to the site manufacturing operations. This role makes complex risk‑based food safety decisions that enable the reliable delivery of products that meet all external legislative requirements and all internal Q&FS standards. Microbiological hazards are a major threat for our consumers, their owners, our reputation, and our brand. Early identification of microbiological risks in all steps of our production process, from field to bowl, and implementation of the adapted mitigating tools are instrumental to our Quality and Food Safety strategy. Responsibilities Lead the effective development, training and implementation of standards, processes and new technology/methods and drive continuous improvement of food safety management at the manufacturing site. Act as a technical resource for interpretation and ongoing application of food safety standards and regulations, as they relate to manufacturing site operations, including but not limited to Foreign Material Management, Pathogen Monitoring, Mold and Mycotoxin, HACCP and Food Fraud Standards. Act as an active member of the Food Safety Team, providing governance to HACCP Food Safety plans and managing validations of CCP and OPRP preventive controls. Provide technical guidance and consultancy to the Food Safety Team to assure that manufacturing processes and environments are microbiologically safe for producing both new and existing products. Lead the Root Cause Analysis investigation of food safety incidents and drive effective implementation of corrective and preventive actions. Track, communicate and analyze KPIs related to Food Safety and escalated trends or issues. Play an active role in the environmental monitoring program, helping to drive continuous improvement and root cause. Interpret sensitive and technical data for potential impact on product safety and provide timely recommendations for the effective resolution of food safety issues. Manage the site micro‑risk mitigation dashboard KPI, partnering with the BU Micro Manager. Compensation The base pay range for this position at commencement of employment is between USD 86,696.00 and USD 119,207.00. The total compensation package will include variable pay, medical and dental benefits, participation in a 401(k) plan, and paid time off benefits.
