Chief Physician & Surgeon – Pleasant Valley State Prison Salary: $26,404.00 – $31,123.00 per month (subject to program adjustments). Location: Full time, in office at Pleasant Valley State Prison, Colusa, California. Classification: Chief Physician & Surgeon, Correctional Facility (12‑month limited term, full time). Responsibilities: Under the general direction of the Institution Chief Medical Executive, you will: Supervise all civil service and contract medical physicians, nurse practitioners, and physician assistants assigned to the institution. Collaborate with clinical, custody supervisors, and managers to ensure safe, timely, effective, and efficient medical services to the patient population. Maintain medical readiness and quality of care in accordance with state regulations and institutional policies. Working Conditions: Travel may be required. Minimum Requirements: Minimum qualifications are detailed in the classification specification (level Q–R). Basic qualifications include completion of a medical degree, active medical license in California, and certification as a member of a recognized medical specialty relevant to internal medicine or family medicine. Desired Qualifications: Legal requirements for the practice of medicine in California as determined by the medical or osteopathic board. Valid certificate issued by an American Medical Specialty Board or an American Osteopathic Board as a specialist in internal medicine or family medicine. Examination Requirement: Candidates must obtain list eligibility by completing and passing the required examination per the California State exam system.
