Position Summary

S&H Trucking is seeking a skilled and dependable Diesel Mechanic to inspect, diagnose, repair, and maintain our fleet of tractors and trailers. The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience with diesel engines, preventative maintenance programs, and trailer repair. This position is critical to ensuring our equipment remains safe, reliable, and compliant with DOT standards.

Key Responsibilities

• Perform preventative maintenance and routine inspections on tractors and trailers.
• Diagnose and repair diesel engines, transmissions, brakes, suspension systems, steering components, and electrical systems.
• Troubleshoot and repair trailer systems, including lights, air brakes, ABS systems, tires, and suspension components.
• Complete engine overhauls, tune-ups, and component replacements as needed.
• Conduct DOT inspections and ensure compliance with federal and state regulations.
• Repair and replace damaged or worn parts and components.
• Maintain accurate service records and repair documentation.
• Respond to roadside breakdowns and emergency repairs when required.
• Keep the shop, tools, and work area clean, organized, and safe.
• Collaborate with drivers and management to identify and resolve equipment issues promptly.

Qualifications

• Minimum of 2 years of diesel mechanic experience preferred.
• Experience working on Class 8 tractors and semi-trailers.
• Strong knowledge of diesel engines, air brake systems, electrical systems, and trailer maintenance.
• Ability to diagnose mechanical and electrical problems efficiently.
• Familiarity with DOT regulations and inspection requirements.
• Valid driver's license required; CDL preferred.
• Ability to lift up to 75 pounds and work in varying weather conditions.
• Welding and fabrication experience is a plus.
