The Traffic Control Assistant plays a key role in keeping telecommunications construction sites safe and traffic moving smoothly. You'll set up and maintain traffic control devices, protect workers and the public, and support crews installing underground and aerial telecom infrastructure, including fiber optic and cable lines. Who Trives in This Role This job is a great fit for someone who: • Stays calm and alert in fast-moving environments — you're often the first line of safety between traffic and a live work zone • Takes pride in the details — a cone placed a few feet off, or a missed hazard, can matter • Communicates clearly and confidently, whether directing a driver, coordinating with crew over radio, or answering a curious passerby • Doesn't mind being on their feet outdoors in sun, heat, or cold — and treats that as just part of the job • Works well independently but also as part of a tight-knit crew • Takes safety seriously without needing to be reminded — for themselves, coworkers, and the public • Is dependable and punctual, since crews rely on traffic control being in place before work can start Responsbilities • Set up, maintain, and remove traffic control devices — cones, signs, barricades, and flagging stations — in compliance with local and federal regulations (e.g., MUTCD guidelines) • Direct traffic safely using hand signals, flags, or stop/slow paddles • Monitor traffic flow and adjust control measures to minimize congestion and hazards • Communicate with crew members via radio or hand signals to coordinate safe vehicle and pedestrian movement • Support telecom construction crews with basic tasks during light traffic (e.g., carrying materials, spotting equipment) • Maintain compliant, safe work zones and report hazards immediately • Stay alert and visible at all times, particularly in high-risk or high-traffic areas • Interact professionally with the public, responding to questions or concerns as needed Qualifications • Prior experience in traffic control, construction, or a related field preferred; will train the right candidate • Flagger certification (or willingness to obtain one) • Ability to stand for extended periods and work outdoors in varying weather conditions • Ability to bend, squat, and lift up to [X] lbs • Strong communication skills and situational awareness • Reliable transportation and a valid driver's license • Comfortable working near vehicle traffic and heavy equipment Job Type: Full-Time Schedule • 8- or 10-hour shifts, Monday–Friday • Day shift • Overtime and weekend availability as needed What We Offer • Competitive salary and benefits package • Medical, dental, and vision coverage • Short-term and long-term disability, plus voluntary life insurance buy-up • Paid time off and parental leave • Team-building events • Career growth opportunities within a fast-growing telecommunications company • A collaborative, dynamic work environment
