Position Details Position: Phlebotomist (4865) Location: Durham, NC Job code: CVDJP00034865 Projected duration: 3 months (potential for permanent) Benefits are available. Mileage expenses will be paid. Schedule: 6:00 AM – 6:00 PM availability required EST. Typically 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM EST, Monday through Friday. Operational areas: Durham, Chapel Hill, Carrboro, and Roxboro. Requirements: Clean driving record and reliable transportation. Summary The main function of a phlebotomist is to assist in performing various assigned duties, troubleshoot, train, and make workflow recommendations. Position Responsibilities Experience doing blood draws, labeling specimens, centrifuging specimens, recording maintenance data and decontamination, updating patient information. Collect and store specimens according to established procedures; properly explain the process of venipuncture and other specimen collection to patients. Demonstrate technique using straight needles and/or butterfly needles. Fully understand all physician orders. Match laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes; label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens as required by test order. Check all test requisitions or computer labels against scripts to ensure 100% accuracy. Package specimens for transport. Store specimen samples according to required temperature; place samples in appropriate collection containers, accurately label, and follow procedures to maintain specimen integrity in accordance with OSHA and DEP regulations. Attend annual department trainings. Answer telephone calls and read laboratory results to satisfy inquiries. Minimum Qualifications Valid phlebotomy certification for the state of employment. Minimum of 6 months of working experience performing venipunctures in a fast‑paced lab or hospital setting. Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite. High school diploma or GED.
