b.next maintains Nucleus, the open source distribution and developer ecosystem for building synthetic cells. Instead of “editing” living cells, synthetic cell builders “compose” systems from individually validated components (DNA, RNA, proteins, small molecules). Designing, modeling, and testing compositions is much easier than living cells because you know and understand every component. Our goal is to support the growing community of synthetic cell builders and to co-create a new field of biotechnology. To do so, we manufacture and validate components for developers and oversee the integration of new modules back into the Nucleus distribution. We also host Developer Notes, open-license preprints for rapidly and freely distributing data, protocols, and materials. In order to grow with the community, we need to prepare synthetic cell components at scale, and we need your help to do it. b.next is looking to hire Manufacturing Associate(s) to run full-stack biomanufacturing for synthetic cellular components: media and buffer formulation and prep, bacterial strain preparation, biomass production, chromatography, polishing, quality control analytics, formulation, packaging, and shipping.
