Biometrics Technician - On Call

Overview Work with the United States Citizenship & Immigration Services (USCIS) in meeting the mission of administering the nation’s lawful immigration system. As a Biometric Technician (BT), you will be responsible for supporting the mission of a government program located in Chicago, IL. This position works as a part of a dynamic team of professionals assisting the USCIS Application Support Center (ASC) operations. Amentum provides all required job training for qualified candidates. Employment Type & Hours This is a Casual On‑Call position. The employee is expected to be available all five days, Monday through Friday from 7:45am to 4:15pm for substitute coverage as needed at the site. Hours are on an “as needed” basis; no guaranteed daily hours are provided. Primary Responsibilities Complete biometrics registration for applicants seeking legal immigration to the United States. Ensure all who enter the ASC are approved applicants and visitors while providing interior and exterior crowd control and assisting staff in enforcing the rules and policies of the ASC. Provide front‑line customer service as representatives of Amentum and on behalf of the U.S. Government. Deliver applicants with the highest level of customer service, managing applicants with sensitivity, courtesy, and respect. Safeguard Personal Identifiable Information (PII) and electronic biometric data. Perform quality biometrics processing, including capturing electronic fingerprints, photographs, and signatures within established program‑wide processing times. Screen applicants for valid appointment notice and identification allowing entry into the ASC. Use crowd‑control barriers to ensure a safe and organized entry into the facility. Visually inspect applicants and their belongings prior to allowing entry; in health‑crisis situations, may be asked about illness status and may be declined if required. Conduct periodic facility checks (interior and exterior) and report any concerns to the Site Supervisor. Assist the Site Supervisor or Immigration Service Officer in contacting law enforcement or other responders when necessary. Manage and complete administrative paperwork accurately, such as tracking processing time, reconciling captured biometrics, maintaining a visitor control log, and signing off facility checks. Required Qualifications US Citizenship is required for facility credentials/authorization at this location. A High School Diploma or equivalent. Ability to speak and write in English. Ability to stand upright for the duration of scheduled shifts (excluding meals and breaks). Ability to hold and grasp an applicant’s hand to obtain quality fingerprints. Ability to work in a high‑paced environment with the public. Ability to type and use basic computer skills. Successful completion of biometrics training and certification within sixty days. Desired Skills Ability to speak a foreign language. Compensation $19.47per hour. Actual compensation may vary based on duties, experience, and other factors.
