POSITION SUMMARYHightower Services is seeking an experienced and safety-focused Journeyman Ironworker (JIW) to perform structural steel erection and related ironwork on commercial and industrial construction projects. The Journeyman Ironworker is responsible for safely erecting, connecting, bolting, aligning, and securing structural steel components in accordance with project drawings, specifications, applicable safety requirements, and company standards. This position requires extensive work at heights, the ability to perform physically demanding construction work, and a strong commitment to jobsite safety, productivity, and quality workmanship.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES· Erect, connect, align, bolt, and secure structural steel members, including beams, columns, joists, decking, and related components.
· Read and interpret blueprints, erection drawings, specifications, and layout information.
· Connect structural steel members using appropriate bolts, tools, equipment, and approved erection procedures.
· Perform bolt-up, plumbing, aligning, fitting, and related structural steel activities.
· Install metal decking, stairs, handrails, guardrails, miscellaneous metals, and other components as assigned.
· Signal and communicate with crane operators and other personnel during hoisting and steel erection operations.
· Properly rig structural steel and construction materials for lifting when qualified and authorized to do so.
· Use aerial lifts, scissor lifts, ladders, scaffolding, and other access equipment safely.
· Inspect tools, equipment, rigging, PPE, and fall-protection equipment before use.
· Maintain required fall protection in accordance with company policy, site requirements, and applicable regulations.
· Identify jobsite hazards and immediately report unsafe conditions to supervision.
· Participate in daily pre-task planning, Job Safety Analyses (JSAs), toolbox talks, and safety meetings.
· Maintain a clean and organized work area to minimize hazards.
· Coordinate effectively with foremen, crane operators, welders, ironworkers, and other trades.
· Follow project schedules and work efficiently while maintaining quality and safety standards.
· Assist apprentices and less-experienced employees when directed by supervision.
· Perform other ironworking and construction-related duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS· Journeyman-level ironworking experience or equivalent documented structural steel erection experience.
· Demonstrated knowledge of structural steel erection and connecting procedures.
· Ability to read and understand structural drawings and erection plans.
· Knowledge of proper rigging, signaling, bolting, and steel erection practices.
· Ability to safely use common ironworking tools and equipment.
· Ability to work safely at significant heights.
· Ability to understand and follow verbal and written instructions.
· Ability to work effectively as part of a construction crew.
· Reliable transportation to assigned jobsites.
· Must be legally authorized to work in the United States.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS & CERTIFICATIONSDepending on project requirements, preference may be given to candidates possessing:
· OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 Construction certification
· Current fall-protection training
· Aerial lift / MEWP certification
· Qualified rigger training
· Qualified signal person training
· Forklift or telehandler certification
· Welding certifications applicable to structural steel work
· First Aid / CPR certification
· Previous commercial or industrial steel erection experience
Additional project-specific training or certifications may be required before performing certain tasks.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS· Frequently stand, walk, climb, bend, kneel, crouch, reach, and balance.
· Climb structural steel, ladders, scaffolding, and access equipment.
· Work at elevated heights while using required fall-protection systems.
· Frequently lift and carry construction materials, tools, and equipment.
· Lift approximately 50 pounds independently and heavier materials with appropriate assistance or mechanical means.
· Maintain sufficient strength, balance, coordination, and mobility to safely perform ironworking duties.
· Work outdoors for extended periods in varying weather and environmental conditions.

WORK ENVIRONMENTThis position is primarily performed on active construction sites. Employees may regularly be exposed to elevated work areas, moving cranes and heavy equipment, suspended loads, noise and vibration, welding and cutting operations, dust and airborne particles, hot and cold temperatures, wind, rain, and uneven or changing walking and working surfaces. Employees must remain alert to changing jobsite conditions and comply with all established safety procedures.
SAFETY RESPONSIBILITIES· Follow Hightower Services safety policies and project-specific safety requirements.
· Comply with applicable OSHA construction and steel erection requirements.
· Wear required PPE and properly inspect and use fall-protection equipment.
· Never work under the influence of alcohol, illegal drugs, or substances that impair the ability to work safely.
· Immediately report injuries, incidents, near misses, damaged equipment, and unsafe conditions.
· Stop work and notify supervision when an imminent safety hazard is identified.
· Never perform work for which the employee has not been properly trained, qualified, or authorized.
· Attend required safety meetings and training.

ATTENDANCE AND TRAVELRegular and reliable attendance is an essential function of this position. Employees must report to the assigned jobsite on time and prepared for work. Hightower Services performs work based on customer and project requirements. Work schedules may include overtime, weekends, extended shifts, or schedule changes based on project requirements.

$30.00 per hour
Typical Schedule
Monday – Saturday 10 hour shifts
Compensation will be based on experience, qualifications, certifications, project requirements, and applicable wage requirements.
