Job no: 495919 Work type: Full Time Location: Swarthmore Job Summary The Department of Athletics, Physical Education, and Recreation is seeking a full‑time Assistant Coach for Men’s Soccer. The assistant coach will assist the head coach with all aspects of the program, including but not limited to practice, training, competition, travel, budget management, recruitment, and program administration. The role supports Swarthmore College’s mission of academic excellence and inclusive athletics. Essential Responsibilities Assist with all aspects of the program in collaboration with the Head Coach, including competition, practice, team activities, travel, budget management, and recruitment of student‑athletes. Perform other essential departmental duties as assigned by the athletics administration. Foster a healthy, inclusive program culture that prioritizes sportsmanship, integrity, and holistic development. Adhere to rules, policies, and regulations of the Department, Swarthmore College, the Centennial Conference, and the NCAA. Assist in creating and executing recruitment strategies to build a competitive roster. Follow departmental procedures in an effective and timely manner. Promote the mission and values of Swarthmore College and its athletics program. Ensure all safety guidelines and standards are followed during practice, competition, travel, and team activities. Collaborate with athletic administration and support areas such as Sports Medicine, Performance, Communications, and Equipment. Demonstrate integrity and ethical standards in all duties. Acquire familiarity with campus resources that support student‑athletes’ development. Support the missions and rules of governing bodies and satisfy all applicable regulations. Attend departmental meetings, trainings, and committees as assigned. Assist the Head Coach with community service initiatives, programming, and team bonding activities. Qualifications Bachelor’s degree (Master’s degree preferred). 1–3 years of coaching experience at the collegiate level, or equivalent education and experience. Knowledge of sport‑specific fundamentals, techniques, safety rules, and intercollegiate athletics at the Division III level. Ability to manage primary aspects of the program independently. Understanding and adherence to NCAA Division III philosophy, policies, and the Centennial Conference. Strong recruiting, teaching, and coaching skills with the ability to recruit at a high‑selectivity academic level. Excellent communication with students, faculty, colleagues, and stakeholders. Certified CPR, AED, and First Aid (preferred). Proficiency with computer technologies such as word processing and email. Preferred Qualifications Master’s degree. 3+ years of collegiate coaching experience, with emphasis on infield coaching. Experience recruiting within a highly selective academic setting. Current CPR, AED, and First Aid certifications. Strong familiarity with computer technologies. Benefits and Compensation Salary range: $50,000–$53,000 per year, based on experience, education, budget, and equity considerations. Retirement plans with a 10% college contribution. Required clearances include: Pennsylvania Access to Criminal History (PATCH) through the Pennsylvania State Police. Pennsylvania Child Abuse History Clearance (PACA) through the Pennsylvania Department of Human Services. Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) Criminal History Background Check.
