Job Opportunity: Pathologist in Head and Neck Pathology

Our organization is seeking a qualified Pathologist to join the Head and Neck Pathology Center of Excellence (COE). This role is part of the academic clinical track and requires specialized training along with a keen interest in Head and Neck Surgical Pathology.

Key Highlights

• The Head and Neck Pathology COE comprises four dedicated pathologists renowned for their expertise in both neoplastic and non-neoplastic conditions affecting the head and neck.
• Annually, the COE processes over 3,500 cases and serves as a consultation reference laboratory at local, regional, and national levels, including telepathology services.
• Strong collaborations exist with the Head and Neck Surgical and Medical Oncology teams, supported by a robust history of federal and industry funding, including recognition as a SPORE (Specialized Program Of Research Excellence) by the NIH.
• Engagement with the multidisciplinary head and neck research team on programmatic grants is anticipated.
• The COE offers a one-year ACGME accredited fellowship in Head and Neck Pathology.
• This position is located at UPMC Presbyterian-Shadyside Hospitals, primarily providing diagnostic support to the Hillman Cancer Center.
• The Department of Pathology boasts a well-established infrastructure in Molecular, Digital, and Computational Pathology, with ongoing investments in Digital Pathology and AI applications.
• Candidates will have significant oversight in translational pathology, utilizing shared resources from our Imaging and Digital Pathology Laboratories, as well as Molecular Anatomic Pathology and FISH laboratories.
• Guaranteed protected time will be allocated for the successful candidate.
• Leadership and guidance in developing diagnostic and research initiatives using available resources will be expected.
• Collaboration with the Head and Neck COE Director regarding service roles and operational functions is essential.
• Participation in various COE-specific meetings at UPMC/Hillman Cancer Center is required.
• Representation of the department on national and international platforms is encouraged.
• Mentorship and teaching responsibilities for Head and Neck Pathology fellows and residents will be part of the role.
• Signing out surgical pathology cases as needed and involvement in research initiatives will also be expected.
• Alignment with the department's mission and goals is crucial.

Qualifications

• Must possess an M.D. or D.O. degree and be board certified in Anatomic Pathology, with specialized training and a strong academic interest in thoracic pathology.
• Eligibility for medical licensure in Pennsylvania is mandatory.
• A solid record of scholarly activities and publications is essential.
