About the Role:
The Shipping Clerk plays a critical role in ensuring the efficient and accurate processing of outgoing shipments within a warehouse or distribution center. This position is responsible for coordinating the preparation, packaging, and dispatch of orders to meet customer requirements and delivery schedules. The Shipping Clerk will manage inventory movement by utilizing various warehouse equipment and technology to maintain accuracy and safety. This role requires close collaboration with receiving, inventory control, and transportation teams to streamline shipping operations and resolve any discrepancies. Ultimately, the Shipping Clerk contributes to customer satisfaction by ensuring timely and error-free delivery of products.
Minimum Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Experience in a warehouse or shipping/receiving environment.
- Ability to operate electric pallet jacks, pallet jacks, and RF scanners safely and efficiently.
- Basic computer skills to handle shipping documentation and inventory systems.
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Previous experience with bar code scanning technology in a shipping or warehouse setting.
- Familiarity with general warehouse operations and safety protocols.
- Experience with order filling and order picking processes.
- Knowledge of shipping regulations and carrier requirements.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
Responsibilities:
- Prepare and process shipping documentation including bills of lading, packing lists, and shipping labels.
- Operate warehouse equipment such as electric pallet jacks, pallet jacks, and RF scanners to move and track inventory.
- Verify the accuracy of orders by picking, packing, and labeling products according to company standards.
- Coordinate with carriers and freight companies to schedule pickups and ensure timely shipment of goods.
- Maintain organized and clean shipping areas to comply with safety and operational guidelines.
- Inspect outgoing shipments for quality and quantity to prevent errors and damages.
- Update inventory records and shipping logs using bar code scanning technology and warehouse management systems.
Skills:
The required skills such as operating electric pallet jacks and pallet jacks are essential for the physical movement of goods within the warehouse, ensuring efficient loading and unloading of shipments. General warehouse knowledge supports the Shipping Clerk in understanding the overall logistics process and maintaining safety standards. Shipping and receiving expertise enables the clerk to coordinate effectively with carriers and internal teams to meet delivery deadlines. Order filling and picking skills are critical for preparing shipments correctly, ensuring customer orders are complete and accurate before dispatch.
