Summary About the Position: Red River Army Depot (RRAD) is located in northeast Texas, 19 miles west of Texarkana and approximately 170 miles northeast of Dallas. RRAD is near the corners of 4 states - Arkansas, Louisiana, Oklahoma and Texas. The depot's enormous maintenance mission includes the repair, rebuild, overhaul and conversion of tactical wheeled vehicles. For more information on Red River Army Depot, go to the following web site: Responsibilities Serves as a Captain responsible for oversight and direction of the day-to-day operations of a fire station for an assigned shift at an Army installation. Responds to emergencies working from specific or general orders from higher level supervisors directing assigned personnel in firefighting activities, search and rescue, HAZMAT incidents, crash/rescue operations and medical emergencies. Directs and participates in practices, training classes, and on-the-job training for assigned crew members, post personnel or others as directed. Plans work schedules and sequence of operations to ensure the meeting of scheduled and priority assignments that the higher level supervisor establishes. Provides employees direct administrative and technical guidance on work requirements and procedures. Performs established personnel administration duties. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-07 grade level in the Federal service which includes 1) Leading other firefighters during emergency and rescue operations; and 2) Providing training such as fire protection and emergencies safety procedures to others, and 3) Overseeing the assigned work of other firefighters. Certifications Required at Time of Application: Firefighter I, Fighter II, Fire Officer I, Fire Officer II, Fire Instructor I, Fire Inspector I, Hazardous Material Technician, HazMat Incident Commander, and a current National Registry or equivalent State issued EMT- Basic license. NOTE: You must upload a copy of these certificates for eligibility. Certifications must be certified through DoD Fire and Emergency Services Certification System, International Fire Service Accreditation Congress (IFSAC), or the Fire Service Professional Qualifications System (PRO-Board) in accordance with DoD 6055.06-M and the State or National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians (NREMT) Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) or higher. This position is included under the provisions of Special Retirement Coverage (SRC) and may have both a maximum entry age and a mandatory retirement date. Maximum Entry Age (MEA): The MEA for Firefighters is 37. Applicants not appointed by the last day of the month in which that individual reaches their 37th birthday shall not be appointed or assigned to these positions. Maximum Re-entry Age: An employee who previously served on a covered position may be rehired past the MEA as long as he/she is able to complete 20 years of covered service by his/her mandatory retirement age. The maximum re-entry age for the individual is calculated by determining the total amount of time he/she has served on a covered position and subtracting that from age 57, if a firefighter. The employee's current age is compared to the calculated maximum re-entry age to determine if he/she can be rehired into the covered position. Waivers to Maximum Entry Age: MEA may be waived, but only under specific circumstances and only if approved by the authorized entity: Waivers to MEA for firefighters must be approved by local Command. You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency in the following areas: Emergency Response Managing Human Resources Preventative Maintenance Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-07). For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone -- no substitution of education for experience is permitted.
