Assistant Nursing Manager (RN)

The Aultman Assistant Nursing Manager (RN) is a professional nurse whose primary responsibility is to provide clinical leadership, support direct patient care, supervise staff, and assist the Clinical Unit Director address more complex questions or scenarios in relation to day-to-day operations. Assistant Nursing Managers provide input into the daily operations and implement operational decisions made by the Clinical Unit Director. This position reports to the Clinical Unit Director.

Areas of Oversight Memorial 4 North is a 24 bed, mixed acuity, unit consisting of telemetry and medical/surgical patients. The unit provides assessment, care, and treatment of acutely ill patients from ages 18 and above (unless otherwise indicated). The unit operates 24 hours per day, seven days per week. Each of the 24 private rooms has the capability of telemetry monitoring.

Common candidates for admission include: patients with diagnosis of Transient Ischemic Attack, Cerebrovascular Accident, and Seizures. Patients requiring telemetry monitoring. Patients requiring inotropic therapy for cardiac or renal disease.

Qualifications: Graduate of an accredited school of nursing with BSN required; MSN preferred. Current, active licensure as a Registered Nurse through the Ohio Board of Nursing. Obtain and maintain current American Heart Association (AHA) training in Basic Life Support (BLS) utilizing Resuscitation Quality Improvement (RQI) is required. Certification preferred for RNs meeting applicable certification eligibility requirements. Membership in professional nursing organization preferred. Minimum of 1-3 years clinical experience. Understanding of the organization's scope and complexity and the position's responsibility. Knowledge of the scope and complexity of the nursing care needs of the major populations served, as well as the culturally diverse and special needs of the population.

Department Qualifications: Obtain and maintain current National Institute's of Health Stroke Scale (NIHSS). Certification required within 90 days of hire. Certified Nurse in Critical Care (CNCC) certification must be obtained within six months of hire and maintained in accordance with organizational standards. Training classes are sponsored by the Education and Development Department.

Skills: Demonstrates effective communication and interacts appropriately and professionally with patients, visitors, colleagues, physicians, students, and all others. Ability and willingness to resolve and mediate conflicts. Must be organized, able to effectively prioritize tasks and resources while exhibiting appropriate time management skills. Must be detail oriented while focusing on safe practices and quality care. Demonstrates effective leadership and coaching of colleagues to positively effect patient outcomes. Adaptability to changing work environments or needs. Proficient computer skills to complete tasks as required.

Responsibilities: Supervises a team of staff members including but not limited applying corrective action and accountability. Spends at least 50% of time performing supervisor duties, as staffing allows. Supervisory role ensues even if providing bedside care. Ability to address and resolve issues elevated within the chain of command or with the Unit Director as needed. Assists in the development of expectations for colleagues and fosters a culture of mentoring and coaching colleagues. Respects patients' rights and responsibilities, demonstrate respect for the patients' culture, language, customs, and beliefs, demonstrate the use of age-specific principles in communicating and educating patients, and serve as a patient and family advocate. Assists in the coordination of nursing services with the services of other healthcare disciplines and monitors initiatives involving care coordination. Promotes HRO tools and tones for high reliability and is committed to workplace safety. Assists with the identification of key performance indicators and input for the development/implementation of strategies based on evidence-based practice to improve patient outcomes. Participates in the recruitment, selection, education, orientation, retention, evaluation, and professional development of colleagues. Responsible for assisting with staffing and scheduling of colleagues within their assigned cost center(s) and providing hands-on assistance or coverage as needed. Assists with meeting the budget for assigned cost center(s); Provides input for operational decisions to the Unit Director and implements those decisions. Commitment to continued personal and professional growth, including career planning. Facilitates participation of staff in organizational and unit-based decision-making councils and/or committees. Maintains continual regulatory readiness. Must adhere to the RN job description and competencies.

Working Conditions: Assists Unit Director in the 24/7 responsibility for unit/department(s). On call rotation required. Flexes time to interact with colleagues on off hours/shifts. Subject to frequent interruptions and changes in priority of duties throughout the day.
