Company Description The Virginia Department of Veterans Services (DVS) supports military veterans and their families through a comprehensive network of benefit offices, long-term care facilities, and veterans’ cemeteries across the Commonwealth. DVS assists with filing claims for federal veterans benefits and connects veterans and their families to behavioral healthcare, housing, employment, education, and other support programs. The Department operates long-term care centers that provide skilled nursing, Alzheimer’s and memory care, and short-term rehabilitative services tailored to the needs of veterans. DVS also manages the Virginia War Memorial, honoring the service and sacrifice of Virginians from World War II to the present. More information about DVS programs and facilities can be found at Role Description The Charge Nurse is a full-time, on-site position located in Warrenton, VA, responsible for overseeing nursing care and daily clinical operations within a veteran-centered long-term care environment. This role coordinates patient care plans, assigns and supervises nursing staff, and ensures adherence to established policies, procedures, and regulatory standards. The Charge Nurse monitors clinical outcomes, supports quality improvement initiatives, and promotes a safe, respectful, and dignified environment for residents. Day-to-day responsibilities include direct patient care, medication administration, documentation, communication with interdisciplinary team members and families, and mentoring nursing staff to maintain high standards of practice. The Charge Nurse also assists with staff scheduling, participation in care conferences, and response to emergencies and urgent clinical needs. Qualifications Current, unencumbered Registered Nurse (RN) license in the Commonwealth of Virginia (or eligibility for licensure); graduation from an accredited nursing program. Experience in skilled nursing, long-term care, rehabilitative, or memory care settings, preferably serving veteran or older adult populations. Demonstrated leadership abilities, including staff supervision, delegation, coaching, and team coordination in a clinical environment. Strong clinical assessment, care planning, and critical-thinking skills, with the ability to respond effectively to changing resident conditions and emergencies. Proficiency in documentation, electronic health records, and adherence to regulatory and compliance standards (e.g., state regulations, infection control, safety protocols). Effective communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate with interdisciplinary teams, residents, families, and external partners in a professional and respectful manner. Commitment to person-centered care, ethical practice, and maintaining dignity, confidentiality, and cultural sensitivity for all residents and families. Ability to work full-time on-site, including flexibility for rotating shifts, weekends, and holidays as needed to support 24/7 operations.
