Lead Estimator

Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced Lead Estimator to support specialized energy, power grid, and utility infrastructure projects . This is an excellent opportunity for a seasoned estimating professional to play a key role in delivering accurate cost estimates across the full project lifecycle—from early conceptual planning through project completion.

The ideal candidate will have extensive experience preparing and reviewing complex estimates, developing estimating standards, and collaborating with cross-functional project teams to ensure cost accuracy and project success.

Key Responsibilities

Cost Estimating

• Develop and prepare cost estimates across all project phases (AACE Class 5 through Class 1).

• Prepare comprehensive estimate plans and Basis of Estimate (BOE) documentation.

• Develop detailed quantity take-offs to support estimate development.

• Perform complex estimating assignments with minimal supervision.

• Lead the preparation of large-scale, high-value project estimates.

Estimating Standards & Continuous Improvement

• Maintain and enhance estimating databases, cost libraries, and benchmarking models.

• Review, validate, and provide technical feedback on estimates prepared by other estimators.

• Lead the implementation and continuous improvement of estimating standards, procedures, and best practices.

• Recommend strategies to improve estimating methodologies and technical capabilities.

Project Support & Collaboration

• Identify potential cost risks and issues early while providing proactive solutions.

• Build and maintain strong working relationships with project teams, engineering, procurement, construction, and client stakeholders.

• Support multiple active projects while ensuring estimate quality, consistency, and accuracy.

Qualifications Required

• Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Construction Management, Finance, or a related field, or

  • 15+ years of relevant industry experience, or

  • 10+ years of direct estimating experience.

• Strong experience preparing estimates throughout all project phases.

• Experience within the Energy, Power Grid, Utilities, or Infrastructure industries preferred.

• Strong knowledge of Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) project scopes from both cost and schedule perspectives.

• Experience performing first-principles estimating for capital projects.

• Ability to manage multiple estimating assignments simultaneously.

• Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

• Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, specifications, and technical documents.

• High attention to detail with the ability to independently review work for accuracy.

Preferred Qualifications

• Professional certification such as AACE, PMI, or CMAA .

• Experience with estimating software such as Aspen Capital Cost Estimator (ACCE) or similar platforms.

• Working knowledge of Primavera P6 .

• Experience with quantitative risk analysis techniques.

• Familiarity with stage-gated project delivery methodologies.

• Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, Adobe Acrobat, and cost management systems.
