Mid-level Software Engineer

Mid-Level Platform Software Engineer

Location: Central Boulder, CO | Workplace: 100% Onsite

Salary: $125,000 – $145,000

Build cloud infrastructure and software systems that power real-world aerospace operations—and help drive operational excellence for a highly profitable, self-funded 40-person software and engineering firm with an open culture, meaningful middleware challenges, and an elite team of peers.

Our client is a privately held technology firm specializing in critical simulation, tracking, and data systems for satellite flight operations. They offer financial stability, an environment free of corporate bureaucracy, and the unique chance to sit at the intersection of complex physics applications and large-scale cloud automation.

They are looking for a Mid-Level Platform Software Engineer with a clear systems mindset who thrives at the crossroads of backend infrastructure and software deployment—where observability, reliability, and automated orchestration are paramount.

The Opportunity

You will play a central role in defining how mission-critical aerospace software is built, delivered, and monitored. This is a practical, hands-on engineering position where you will architect automated CI/CD pipelines, optimize distributed cloud environments, and establish yourself as an infrastructure and backend automation expert within the department. Your initiative will matter deeply here.

Our client values developers who can cross domains, dive into fragile legacy code to make it durable, and introduce modern automation practices. You will also participate in a shared, highly balanced team standby rotation to support platform reliability and operational commitments during real-time mission workflows.

What You'll Do

Design, build, and optimize enterprise-grade backend applications, services, and RESTful APIs with an emphasis on performance and reliability.

Leverage AWS CDK and Infrastructure-as-Code principles to build repeatable, version-controlled, and auditable cloud infrastructure deployments.

Design and maintain robust CI/CD pipelines to automate build, test, and deployment workflows across development and live production systems.

Embed observability, metrics, and alerting systems into the core platform to drive automated recovery and operational excellence.

Actively collaborate across specialized engineering teams to translate complex data streaming requirements into highly scalable cloud solutions.

Participate in thorough code reviews to uphold code quality, security controls, and engineering best practices.

Join a rotating, shared team standby schedule to maintain platform health and support real-time aerospace data flows, with any active troubleshooting hours counted directly toward your standard work week.

What You Bring

Education: Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a highly technical systems field.

Years of Experience: 3–6 years of hands-on software development depth, showing clear progression into cloud orchestration and process automation.

The Coding Profile: Strong proficiency in backend development, specifically with Python, shell scripting, or systems languages like Rust/C++.

Cloud Infrastructure Depth: Solid experience managing production workloads across core AWS services (such as Lambda, API Gateway, Step Functions, or container services).

DevOps Mindset: Proven experience utilizing Infrastructure-as-Code tools (AWS CDK or CloudFormation) alongside containerized environments (Docker) and Git workflows.

Pragmatic Drive: Exceptional accountability, self-motivation, and the communication skills required to gather technical requirements across diverse engineering squads.

What Is Offered

Competitive base salary of $125,000 – $145,000 per year.

Comprehensive standby program where any active troubleshooting hours spent over weekends or holidays balance directly back into your standard 40-hour week.

A consistent, stable 40-hour standard work week with direct access to technical founders and leadership.

Generous paid leave: 3 weeks of standard open PTO plus 10 paid government holidays (5 weeks total leave).

Complete medical, dental, and vision insurance packages.

401(k) retirement plan with a 3% company match.

Clear path to grow technically, with encouragement to present new ideas and drive architecture updates.
