Supervisor of Perfusion

Location Frisco, Texas Job Summary The Supervisor, Perfusion, supervises, plans, organizes, and improves Perfusion Services. This position handles orientation, teaches, coaches, supervises staff, and performs Perfusion procedures as needed. The Supervisor acts as a department liaison when the manager is absent. Essential Functions Of The Role Oversees Perfusion services delivery and quality, including extracorporeal circulation equipment operation. Selects appropriate equipment and techniques timely, accurately, and cost‑efficiently, following System and regulatory standards, policies, and procedures. Ensures adequate staffing, supplies, and resources for Perfusion services to meet clinical demands. Schedules, monitors, evaluates, and modifies staffing patterns to provide services. Interviews, counsels, and completes performance evaluations and merit reviews. Trains new staff and ensures all registrations and certifications are current and on file. Partners with the management team and staff. Conducts multidisciplinary staff meetings to ensure consistent and timely communication throughout the department. Facilitates goal setting for staff. Monitors goals and achievements. Assures goals are reflected in annual performance evaluations. Encourages employees to take part in surveys and activities. Provides service feedback results to staff. Initiates a plan of action for improvement. Ensures all perfusion equipment works properly and preventive maintenance is current. Maintains all perfusion supplies at par levels. Collaborates with management to promote a culture of service excellence and patient‑centeredness. Holds self and staff accountable for service excellence in their areas of responsibility. Facilitates reward and recognition. Acts as a liaison to other departments. Develops and maintains cooperative relationships with physicians and medical departments. Gathers and exchanges information, develops and deploys solutions to problems. Helps develop, review, revise, submit, and implement policies, procedures, and priorities that align with Department and System priorities. Helps ensure compliance with applicable regulatory and accrediting standards and departmental policies and protocols. Provides patient care in the form of operation of the extracorporeal circulation equipment as required due to workload of complexity. Key Success Factors Knowledge of human anatomy and physiology, chemistry, and biology. Knowledge of several cardiac diseases, defects, and congenital anomalies. Knowledge of sterile and perfusion supplies: extracorporeal oxygenators, tubing circuits, and cannulae for adults, pediatric, and infants. Knowledge of arteries, veins, organs, and specific blood flow paths in the body, including pressures and gas exchange in adult, pediatric, and infant patients. Knowledge of blood components, plasma composition, and use of blood products with extracorporeal circuits and devices. Skill in operating extracorporeal circulation and autotransfusion equipment. Verbal and written communication skills. Learn and apply regulatory and accreditation standards for operating room procedures and departmental policies. Ability to make tactical choices about allocating and directing supervised employees' work using established guidelines, policies, or procedures. Ability to make effective hiring and termination recommendations. Ability to train, and evaluate performance of supervised staff. General computer skills include Microsoft Office, information security, scheduling and payroll systems, electronic medical documentation, and email.
