Responsibilities
- Draw blood samples from patients of all ages, including pediatric and geriatric populations, following established procedures and safety guidelines
- Prepare specimens for laboratory testing, ensuring proper handling, labeling, and documentation
- Verify patient demographic information and obtain patient signatures as needed to confirm sample labeling accuracy
- Maintain a clean, safe, and professional environment in accordance with policies and procedures
- Provide clear explanations of procedures to patients to foster trust and confidence
- Accurately maintain records and documentation related to specimen collection and processing
- Demonstrate leadership behaviors and process excellence while respecting confidentiality and patient information
- Work independently with minimal supervision, managing multiple priorities in high-volume settings
- Travel to different locations, including patient service centers and in-office phlebotomy sites, based on staffing needs
Required Skills
- Proven excellent phlebotomy skills, including pediatric and geriatric blood collection techniques
- Ability to perform error-free work in a fast-paced environment
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy in specimen collection and documentation
- Effective communication skills for explaining procedures and fostering trust with patients
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
- Proficiency in keyboard and data entry tasks
Additional Skills & Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent required
- Phlebotomy certification preferred; required in California, Nevada, and Washington
- Medical assistant or paramedic training preferred
- 1-3 years of phlebotomy experience, including pediatric, geriatric, and capillary collections
- Experience working in a customer service or retail environment highly preferred
- Availability to work flexible hours, including weekends, holidays, and overtime
- Reliable transportation, valid driver's license, and clean driving record if travel is required
- Ability to handle multiple priorities in a high-volume setting
