General Cleaner Macys Palm Desert 20-25 hrs/week

PRIMARY PURPOSE To perform a variety of cleaning activities in assigned buildings/facilities, keeping them clean, sanitary, and orderly, and to perform other tasks related to the area of assignment. ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES High dusting – use a treated high duster, work counter‑clockwise around the room, dusting high surfaces such as lights, curtain tips, vents, and ledges. Brush the high duster in a downward direction into the service cart. Sanitizing / Spot cleaning – use a germicidal solution, work counter‑clockwise to sanitize surfaces below shoulder height (ledges, chairs, telephone, countertops, trash cans). Remove fingerprints and smudges from doorknobs and walls; spot‑clean windows. Bathroom cleaning – wipe down in the order: above and below sink, toilet seat and the outside of the toilet bowl, toilet interior with a Johnnie Mop and germicidal solution (attend to rim), replenish soap and paper dispensers. Empty trash cans – remove liners, wipe the can, replace liner. Floor dusting or vacuuming – use a treated dust mophead, start at the back of the room with an “S” stroke, dust under all furniture, then clean the mophead with a downward stroke, sweep dust into a dustpan. Vacuum from back to front, under chairs and furniture. Grounds care – outside areas cleaned several times a day: empty and clean ash urns and trash cans, police sidewalks, flower beds, curb lines for trash and cigarette butts, spot‑clean spills, remove gum, wipe benches, vending machines, window ledges, dust public area glass, clean parking lot trash. Public common areas – dust mop and spot‑mop main hallways, clean glass, clean planters, remove bird waste, perform high dusting of window areas twice per week, check corners and edges. Food court – clean, remove trash and sanitize tables, arrange chairs, spot‑clean spills, empty and clean trash cans, remove dirty trays, use tray power washer, store clean trays. Floor sanitizing – mop from back to front with germicidal solution, under furniture and behind doors. Inspection – review cleaning steps after each room, check furniture placement, correct any issues. Hall, lobby, stairs, water fountains – spot and high dusting daily. Customer Relations – knock lightly on doors, be friendly, answer questions, report broken items, work quietly, maintain clean appearance, report incomplete work to supervisor, be courteous. Performs other duties as assigned or directed by supervisor or account manager (e.g., floor care, stripping and waxing, carpet extraction, auto scrub, buffing). QUALIFICATIONS Knowledge of basic janitorial operations, methods, materials, and equipment; safe work practices; use of toxic and non‑toxic chemicals per MSDS sheets. Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions; communicate with co‑workers and supervisors; operate powered and non‑powered equipment; interpret warning labels on chemicals; maintain physical condition appropriate to performance of duties. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS Walking, standing or sitting for extended periods. Operating powered and non‑powered equipment. Lifting/carrying 1-30 lbs equipment, supplies, trash. Push/pull using both hands and arms while cleaning, exerting 5-35 lbs force. Climbing stairs and ladders, bending, twisting, balancing at waist, knees, neck. Kneeling, crouching, crawling to clean lower areas, retrieving supplies from lower shelves. Reaching, handling, grasping, using hand and power tools, wiping surfaces; overhead reaching required.
