About the Position

Key Responsibilities

• Provide direct nursing care to a Neuro and Neuro-Surgical patient population including CVA patients, elective back/neck surgery patients, and cerebral angiogram patients on a 22-bed unit with a 1:4 nurse-to-patient ratio
• Perform NIHSS assessments , dysphagia screenings, and strong neurological assessments; interpret basic telemetry rhythms
• Initiate and titrate heparin drips; manage stable infusions (e.g., Protonix, Lasix); administer blood and blood products; perform venipuncture and blood cultures
• Manage Foley catheters, straight catheterizations, NG tubes, indwelling drains, and maintain strict intake and output documentation
• Float to the medical unit as needed and be comfortable managing medical overflow patients at a 1:4 or 1:5 ratio
• Chart accurately and efficiently using Epic EMR

• Current, active Illinois RN license required
• AHA BLS certification required
• AHA ACLS certification required
• NIHSS certification required - must be attached at time of submittal
• Minimum of two years of Med Surg/Telemetry experience with at least one prior travel assignment
• Must live at least 40 miles from the facility to be eligible

• Neuro nursing experience strongly preferred
• Recent Epic EMR experience highly preferred
• Experience with Neuro-Surgical patients (CVA, cerebral angiogram, elective spine surgery)
• Strong assessment and critical thinking skills with the ability to adapt to change and manage a dynamic unit environment

• Expected 36-48 hours per week on a structured Neuro unit with a consistent day shift schedule (note: hours during orientation week and facility holidays may vary)
