Responsibilities Outpatient cardiothoracic procedures, including dressing changes, thoracentesis, wound‑vac changes. Inpatient cardiothoracic procedures (as above). Prepare all records and reports required by MTF SOPs, federal law, or Army regulation. Attend and participate in patient care reports, conferences, and professional activities related to assigned cases and contract services. Facilitate patient access to care by recommending appropriate referrals per MTF policies. Assess patient condition via medical history review and physical examination (Medical Fitness and Profiling Standard). Order and interpret routine laboratory tests, radiographic studies, and ECGs. Write recommendations for activity restrictions due to medical impairments, writing progress notes and interim summaries. Evaluate soldiers for retention and admission in accordance with AR 40‑501. Assist in clinic Quality Assurance Program to meet Joint Commission standards. Ensure documentation is legible, correct, and signed or stamped; review and correct peer‑review findings. Use CHCS/AHLTA, GENESIS, and other data‑management programs as required. Annotate and sign medical records in accordance with Army Regulation 40‑66 and local requirements. Meet physical demands outlined in the PWS; stand or sit for extended periods and possibly lift specified weights. Maintain required certifications, including Basic Life Support (BLS) and, if applicable, Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS). Other duties as assigned. Qualifications Doctor of Medicine or Osteopathic Medicine; board‑certified by the American Board of Thoracic Surgery. Completed 2 years of residency/fellowship training in Cardiothoracic Surgery. Valid, unrestricted license in one of the 50 states, DC, Puerto Rico, Guam, or U.S. Virgin Islands. Foreign graduates must have an ECFMG certificate or 5th Path. Current BLS certification (no online courses). ACLS certification required for physicians. Background check clearance; additional checks may be required. Basic computer skills, telephone etiquette, and typing proficiency. Spanish‑speaking ability is a plus (not explicitly required but noted). Minimum Qualifications At least 2 years of recent experience (within the last 3 years) as a Cardiothoracic Surgeon. Knowledge, skills, and abilities to provide full range of cardiothoracic procedures, including: Off‑pump coronary artery bypass surgery Valve repair or replacement Esophagectomy Lung resection (lobectomy or pneumonectomy) Repair of congenital cardiothoracic problems Specialized training and experience in cardiothoracic medicine. Professional knowledge of diagnostic and therapeutic procedures. Ability to identify medical problems, recognize emergencies, and refer appropriately. Knowledge of AR 40‑501 regulations. Self‑starter with ability to learn new tasks and skills. Strong organization and communication skills. Ability to multitask and work responsibly with the medical team. Minimum Skills Basic computer literacy, customer service expectations, and telephone etiquette. Physical stamina to meet demands of the position as described in the PWS.
