Building Engineer

Building Engineer Location: Jersey City, NJ BLT is seeking a dedicated and professional Building Engineer to join our luxury residential community in Jersey City, NJ. The Building Engineer will oversee all mechanical / electrical operations, installation, and maintenance of equipment, systems, and facilities, ensuring they operate safely, efficiently, and reliably. This role is hands-on and supervisory, supporting a high standard of performance across the property. Responsibilities of the Building Engineer: Supervise all engineering operations and mechanical & electrical maintenance for a portfolio of high-rise apartment buildings. Plan, implement, and manage all mechanical / electrical operations, maintenance, communications, energy management, and manpower development programs. Troubleshoot and repair all mechanical systems, respond promptly to service requests, and report any potential safety hazards or liability concerns. Manage municipal-mandated inspections (fire/life safety, backflow, elevators, etc.). Oversee facility utilities, including gas, electric, sewer, water, phone, and CATV. Direct maintenance programs related to both the interior and exterior condition and appearance of the properties. Plan and execute preventative maintenance programs for all systems, including mechanical, electrical, HVAC, plumbing, fire/life safety, generators, security, access control, BMS, and vertical transportation. Ensure all site-specific documentation, inspections, and reports are completed accurately and on time. Administer inventory control programs and manage the purchasing of parts and supplies. Establish and maintain programs to ensure compliance with applicable codes, regulations, and company standards. Lead and develop a team through effective communication, supervision, training, and scheduling to ensure work is completed efficiently and within budget. Maintain staffing schedules to ensure 24/7 emergency coverage, and support ongoing skill development and learning initiatives for assigned personnel. Requirements for the Building Engineer: 3 years of hands-on experience in the HVAC trade industry. Strong knowledge of electrical systems in the industry. Strong knowledge of local and national mechanical / electrical codes. Must hold all required city, state, and federal licenses and certifications. Ability to read and interpret blueprints and schematic diagrams. Proficiency in the use of hand and power tools. Availability to work varying shifts, weekends, and holidays as needed. Basic plumbing and piping skills, with working knowledge of compressors and air systems.
