Criminal Defense Attorney

Gibson Law is actively seeking an experienced criminal attorney for our Lafayette and North-Central Indiana practice. We are considering both a full-time attorney and an of-counsel attorney seeking approximately 20-25 hours per week.

Full-Time Opportunity
The full-time position includes:

• $125,000 base salary
• Performance bonus and regional growth opportunities
• Option to perform approved public defender work and keep 100% of that income
• Remote work when not in court
• No required office time
• No billable-hour requirement
• Paid vacation, CLE support, Indiana bar dues, and Lexis+
• Mileage reimbursement for required travel outside Tippecanoe County
• Optional public defender work may provide approximately $25,000-$50,000 in additional annual income , depending on the amount of PD work the attorney chooses to accept. PD work is not required.

Of-Counsel / Part-Time Opportunity
We will also consider an experienced attorney interested in an approximately 20-25-hour-per-week of-counsel role, with base compensation of approximately $80,000 plus bonus opportunities.

This structure may work particularly well for:

- a solo practitioner who wants to maintain an existing practice while adding steady income from Gibson Law; or
- an attorney who wants to combine part-time work with Gibson Law and approved public defender work while keeping 100% of the PD income.

Schedule and Geography

Tippecanoe County is the center of the practice and accounts for the largest share of the work. This regional position will regularly handle cases in Clinton, Carroll, White, Benton, Fountain, and Warren Counties.

Court appearances generally occur 2-4 days per week, most often about 3 days, and are typically concentrated into one- to two-hour morning or afternoon hearing blocks. When court is finished, the remainder of the workday can be worked remotely.

There is no required office time when an attorney is not needed in court. Attorneys may work remotely or use Gibson Law's downtown Lafayette office.

• Active Indiana law license in good standing
• Criminal-law experience required
• Current or former prosecutors, public defenders, and criminal defense attorneys are strongly encouraged to apply
• Strong client communication skills
• Professional courtroom presence and sound judgment
• Ability to manage cases independently and stay organized
• Comfortable appearing regularly in Tippecanoe County and surrounding North-Central Indiana courts
• Willingness to use modern case-management technology and established firm workflows
