Emergency Department Paramedic

Cleveland Clinic Fairview Hospital is a Magnet Nursing Facility recognized by the American Nurses Credentialing Center. The ED is a Level II Trauma Center specializing in general emergency/trauma and sepsis care, with SANE services. As a Paramedic in the ED, you will provide immediate medical treatment, including advanced life support, to patients in emergencies and those with critical injuries or illnesses. This role requires fast thinking and decisive action, as every second counts in an emergency environment. A caregiver in this position works nights from 7:00 p.m. – 7:30 a.m. with weekend requirements. Responsibilities Provide duties that assist in delivering patient care in the Emergency Department under the direct supervision of a Registered Nurse. Obtain and record vital signs. Perform EKGs, CPR, phlebotomy and oral, nasal and endotracheal suctioning. Initiate cardiac monitoring, oxygen therapy and saline locks. Notify the RN and/or physician of rhythm changes. Apply orthopedic appliances and simple splints. Size crutches and teach crutch walking. Assist with equipment setup, chest tubes, gastric lavage, lumbar puncture, etc. Assist with restraint and seclusion of patients and apply restraint devices. Transport patients and specimens. Assist with sterile procedures and cleaning and maintaining supplies and equipment. Maintain confidentiality and respect for patient privacy. Perform fluid and drug administration. Minimum qualifications Completion of an accredited EMS-Paramedic training program Current licensure as an Emergency Medical Technician-Paramedic (EMTP) in Ohio Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification through the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification through the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross upon hire or within one year of hire Clinical experience through an EMS Paramedic training program Preferred qualifications International Trauma Life Support (ITLS) One year of experience as an EMT-P Physical requirements Requires full body motion to move and lift patients, manual finger dexterity with good eye-hand coordination; involves extensive standing and walking. Medium work – exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, and greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Physical demand requirements are in excess of those for Light Work. Personal protective equipment Follows standard precautions using personal protective equipment as required. Pay range Minimum hourly: $22.00 Maximum hourly: $32.00 The pay range displayed reflects the anticipated range for new hires. Actual compensation is determined based on factors such as work history, experience, skill set and education.
