Adjunct Faculty – Digital Multimedia Design (Web Design) Harold Washington College, City Colleges of Chicago Location: 30 East Lake Street, Chicago's Loop Course/Start date: Fall 2026 Responsibilities Teaching responsibilities include courses in: Web design, Digital Media design and image processing. Design courses to meet learning outcomes and promote students’ active participation in their own learning. Create an effective learning environment that fosters students’ intellectual curiosity and helps students to problem‑solve using discipline‑specific thinking strategies. Employ a variety of formative and summative assessments to ensure that classroom instruction leads to student learning and the attainment of the student learning outcomes for the course. Help students reach their academic, personal and career goals and foster a safe environment that respects the diversity of people and ideas by modeling respect for all students and conveying confidence in every student’s ability to learn. Contribute to and provide leadership in the student’s academic and professional communities, and promote collaboration and teamwork among members of these communities. Qualifications Master’s Degree/MFA in interactive design, new media or related discipline required. Professional Experience/Expertise in Design/Web design or related field; 4 years’ industry or business applied experience in the teaching subject area. Candidates must demonstrate this with portfolio & work samples. Special consideration may be given to a candidate with a combination of Bachelor’s degree in interactive design, new media or related discipline and 10+ years of professional industry or business applied experience in Web design/development field demonstrated through CV, portfolio & work samples. Strong working knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite: Dreamweaver, Illustrator, Photoshop, Animate; HTML, HTML5, CSS, Bootstrap & jQuery. Previous teaching experience in an academic environment. Knowledge of Brightspace preferred. Excellent oral and written communication skills and ability to communicate with a diverse group of staff and students. Experience with a diverse, multi‑lingual student population is desired, as is a commitment to the open‑access mission of the community college.
