CNC Programmer

5-Axis CNC Programmer

This role focuses on programming, setting up, and proving out complex 5-axis CNC milling operations using Mastercam or GibbsCAM, while working to AS9100 standards. You will take parts from prototype through production, selecting optimal cutting tools, designing fixtures, and establishing speeds and feeds for a variety of challenging materials, including tungsten, Inconel, titanium, copper, and other alloys. The position requires hands-on involvement at the machine, including setup, fixture installation, and production handoff on modern CNC mills with pallet pools and controls such as Fanuc, Fadal, Haas, and Doosan.

Responsibilities

• Program 5-axis CNC mills using Mastercam or GibbsCAM to produce complex components to specification.
• Perform hands-on setup of CNC mills, including fixture installation, tool loading, and machine preparation.
• Prove out new programs at the machine, verifying dimensional accuracy, surface finish, and process reliability.
• Select optimal cutting tools for a wide range of materials, including tungsten, Inconel, titanium, and copper.
• Design and implement fixtures that ensure secure workholding, repeatability, and efficient machining.
• Establish appropriate speeds and feeds based on material, tooling, and machine capabilities to optimize cycle time and tool life.
• Program and set up CNC mills equipped with pallet pools to support efficient, continuous production.
• Work with Fanuc, Fadal, Haas, and Doosan controls to load, adjust, and optimize CNC programs.
• Apply AS9100 standards and best practices to ensure quality, traceability, and process control in all machining operations.
• Support prototype and prototyping work by developing flexible, robust machining processes for new parts.
• Collaborate with production teams to complete smooth production handoffs, including documentation and setup instructions.
• Troubleshoot machining issues, make program and process adjustments, and implement improvements for accuracy and efficiency.
• Interpret engineering drawings and GD&T requirements to ensure parts meet all dimensional and tolerance specifications.

Essential Skills

• Proven experience in CNC programming for 5-axis mills using Mastercam or GibbsCAM.
• Hands-on experience setting up CNC mills, including fixture installation and tool setup.
• Strong proficiency working with Fanuc, Fadal, Haas, and Doosan CNC controls.
• Ability to perform complete prove-outs of new programs and validate machining processes.
• Demonstrated skill in selecting optimal cutting tools for challenging materials such as tungsten, Inconel, titanium, and copper.
• Experience designing fixtures that provide secure and repeatable workholding for complex parts.
• Capability to establish and adjust speeds and feeds to balance productivity, tool life, and part quality.
• Working knowledge of AS9100 standards and their application in machining and production environments.
• Ability to interpret engineering drawings and apply GD&T principles in machining operations.
• Experience working with CNC mills equipped with pallet pools for high-efficiency production
• in prototype and prototyping work, including developing processes for new and unique parts.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Familiarity with Fanuc B controls and related programming conventions.
• Experience using GibbsCAM in addition to Mastercam for multi-axis programming.
• Knowledge of machining high-temperature alloys and hard materials, including tungsten and Inconel.
• Comfort working with copper and other non-ferrous materials while managing burrs and surface finish.
• Understanding of aerospace-level quality requirements and documentation practices aligned with AS9100.
• Ability to collaborate with engineering and production teams to refine part designs for manufacturability.
• Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail in both programming and hands-on machining.
• Willingness to support continuous improvement initiatives in tooling, fixturing, and machining processes.
