The Opportunity We're looking for a creative and commercially minded Designer with experience in character licensing to join our growing team. This role will play a key part in bringing licensed children's apparel collections to life, from initial concept through production. The ideal candidate thrives in a collaborative environment, understands the licensed marketplace, and has a strong eye for trends, graphics, and product development. What You'll Do Design and execute licensed children's apparel collections across multiple product categories. Translate market trends, consumer insights, and retail opportunities into compelling product concepts. Partner with merchandising, sales, graphics, product development, and technical design teams throughout the development process. Drive seasonal design initiatives while ensuring products align with licensing requirements and retailer expectations. Present fresh concepts, color stories, and assortment ideas that support business growth. Manage multiple projects simultaneously, ensuring deadlines and key milestones are consistently met. Mentor junior design team members and provide direction throughout the creative process. Participate in fittings and collaborate with cross‑functional teams to refine product fit and construction. Review samples, fabrics, trims, strike‑offs, and color submissions to ensure design intent is maintained. Work closely with costing and production partners to balance creativity with commercial viability. Prepare and review technical documentation to support sample development and manufacturing. Obtain necessary approvals throughout the design and development lifecycle. What We're Looking For 5+ years of apparel design experience, preferably within children's apparel. Direct experience working with character licensed products is required. Strong proficiency in Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop. Ability to sketch, communicate design concepts clearly, and build cohesive collections. Experience working within a fast‑moving retail or wholesale environment. Strong knowledge of fashion trends, fabrications, garment construction, and consumer preferences. Excellent organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines. Strong communication and collaboration skills across cross‑functional teams. NYC‑based candidates are preferred; relocation will be considered for qualified applicants as this is an onsite position.
