Phlebotomist

This is a contract job opportunity. Potential for permit. Schedule: Fluctuates between 7-4 and 8:30-5:30 M-F, there is opportunity for OT on weekends on volunteer basis; if we can’t find anyone it becomes mandatory. Requires a clean driving record and reliable transportation. Must be comfortable doing hard sticks. Summary: The main function of a phlebotomist is to assist in performing various assigned duties, troubleshoot, train, and make workflow recommendations. Position Responsibilities: Experience doing blood draws, labeling specimens, centrifuging specimens, recording maintenance data and decontamination, updating patient information, etc. Collects and stores specimens according to established procedures. Properly explains in a clear but courteous manner the process of venipuncture (blood drawing) and or other specimen collection (e.g., urine or fecal) as required. Demonstrates technique using straight needles and/or butterfly needles. Fully understands all physician orders. Matches laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes. Labels, centrifuges, splits, and freezes specimens as required by test order. Checks all test requisitions or computer labels against scripts to ensure 100% correctness. Packages specimens for transport. Stores specimen samples according to required temperature, places them in appropriate collection containers/tubes, accurately labels them, and follows procedures outlined by specific protocols necessary for transport to maintain specimen integrity. Understands and complies with OSHA and DEP regulations. Attends annual department trainings. Answers telephone calls and reads laboratory results to satisfy inquiries. Minimum Qualifications: Valid Phlebotomy certification for the state where you will be employed as required in some states.
