Critical Care Advanced Practice Provider, Emergency Medicine, SNVMC Neonatology

Overview Critical Care Advanced Practice Providers (APP) are Nurse Practitioners (NP) or Physician Assistants (PA) at Woodbridge, VA - Sentara Northern Virginia Medical Center. This position is for a nocturnist full-time coverage of NICU and delivery service with a neonatology back-up available from home for delivery of multiples or very low birth weight infants. Responsibilities Initiates, participates and collaborates with critical care divisional and organizational multi-disciplinary staff to provide and support evidence-based education, quality improvement and research. Provides evidenced-based care for the management of patients, including assessment, implementation and evaluation of a detailed plan of care, which incorporates diagnostic and therapeutic interventions. Demonstrates competency in providing age-appropriate care to patients as defined by certification and training and provides family-centered care to meet family needs, including psychological support, education and discharge planning in conjunction with other related disciplines. Initiates, participates in and/or leads multidisciplinary patient care teams. Provides leadership within the clinical area through participation in division projects and mentorship of others; contributes to department and organization-wide initiatives, representing advanced practice and promoting the role of the APP. Qualifications Minimum Education Master's Degree for Nurse Practitioner or Doctoral degree as a Nurse Practitioner from an accredited program and eligibility for medical staff credentialing required. Minimum Work Experience 0 years minimum of experience as an Advanced Practice Provider (Required). Required Skills/Knowledge Strong knowledge of clinical specialty and services; demonstrates clinical leadership skills; excellent written and verbal communication skills. Required Licenses and Certifications For Nurse Practitioner: Licensure in the state(s) of clinical practice; CDS in state(s) of clinical practice; DEA; active national acute care certification (PNCB, ANCC, or AANPCB) or equivalent; BLS certification. For Physician Assistant: Licensure in the state(s) of clinical practice; CDS in state(s) of clinical practice; DEA; active national certification with NCCPA; BLS certification. Basic Life Support Certified as BLS for Healthcare Provider (Required). Functional Accountabilities Clinical Assesses, diagnoses, and monitors clinical status of each patient utilizing evidence-based practice and medical knowledge. Develops appropriate plan of care; writes patient care orders, prescribes therapy, and provides necessary home care orders as needed. Identifies significant changes in patient status using physical exams, labs, diagnostic tests, and patient/family input; differentiates between normal and abnormal findings. Performs procedures as needed after obtaining appropriate credentialing; participates in and/or leads multidisciplinary patient care; acts as a clinical resource for patient, parents and the interdisciplinary team. Communicates and escalates clinical/administrative issues; collaborates with nursing, medicine, and other members of the healthcare team to regularly ensure quality patient care. Administrative Serves as a clinical preceptor to NP, CNS or PA students; acts as a clinical resource for staff in patient care issues; provides formal/informal educational presentations to staff on areas of expertise. Participates in and leads quality improvement initiatives in the department.
