Processing Supervisor Position Type: Full time Reports to: Processing Manager Level of Supervision: Processing Department Employment Classification: Non-Exempt Location: 13606 Gun Club Rd., Wasco, CA. 93280 This Job Description includes activities assigned specifically to the Processing Supervisor position at Central Valley Eggs in the absence of the Processing Manager and/or at the direction of the Processing Manager. All GMP’s and SOP’s should be followed in conjunction with all Food Safety and Food Quality requirements and guidelines. Processing Supervisor will be responsible for ensuring that the following tasks are performed in a timely manner. (There may be some instances where Senior Management may ask the Processing Supervisor for additional tasks to be performed outside of the standard “job description” of this position.) Safety is every employee’s responsibility as Processing Supervisor you agree to implement the daily use Personal Protective Equipment when performing your job duties. Caution The safety of guards and safety interlock switches which are furnished as standard equipment on this machine are for your protection. Do not attempt to operate this machine without first making sure that all guards are properly installed. Do not bypass safety interlock switches. Do not reach under guards. Any of these practices will expose you to needless danger and can result in severe injury to yourself or another person. Report all suspected safety hazards to your supervisor immediately. Job Brief: The purpose of this role is to plan, direct and oversee the safe and efficient operation of the processing facility. Provide necessary resources to members of management team in order to achieve quality and best cost. This person will provide management oversight of day-to-day operations and long-term processing work, activities, planning and project work. Essential Functions: · The Processing Supervisor’s first responsibility of the day is to perform a Pre-Op Inspection. · (See DAILY PRE-OP SANITATION REPORT). Ideally Pre-Op is preformed prior to the USDA Pre-Op Inspection, although can be done alongside the USDA Grader. Once a Processing Lead has been thoroughly trained, the Manager can re-assign the Pre- Op duties. · During the Pre-Op Inspection a Safety Inspection should be performed. Processing Supervisors are required to do a daily safety walk-through to identify any safety hazards prior to employees starting their shift. (See Pre-Shift Safety Checklist) · Once the Pre-Op and Safety Inspection is complete and the machines are cleared for production, the Processing Supervisor can set up the Egg Grading machine. · Turn on Over Wrap machine and start filling all of the washers; don’t actually start running the washers or blowers until machine check has been performed. · Manager may perform or can assign the Machine Check to his Lead Mechanic. Machine speed is set and machine is started. Listen for any in-normality in machine, such as tools left in the machine, rollers off, and or any machine malfunctions. Set lanes to run consistently. · Run machine for approximately 5 minutes. Once confirmed the machine is running correctly, turn on washers and blowers. Set machine speed. · Verify that the date stamps set up, boxes, cartons, and slip sheets set up, and everything is available for production to begin. · Employees arrive on the floor and full production begins. · Run approximately 2 1/2 cases of each product, increase speed to approximately 200 cases per hour to ensure date stamps are correct and all positions are running efficiently. · Verify all people are in place, and positions are covered. Adjust lines production if someone is missing. If necessary call in or pull resources from other areas to ensure proper coverage. · Once everything has cleared and depending on the availability of the eggs, the final machine speed will be determined by the Manager. · Before leaving the Plant for the day, Manager ensures that all Egg Re-Work is done, Production daily cleanup has been performed, all dry products have been properly put away, and cooler are all ready for the night cleanup crew. Manager should have printed the next day’s Run Sheets & ensured that the packaging is available, and confirm that there are enough eggs to fill the orders. · Processing Supervisor will ensure that all employees are working in a safe manner and under safe conditions. · Processing Supervisor will be responsible to enforce all company policies and give disciplinary actions to anyone breaking any rules or policies. · Processing Supervisor is responsible to let the Safety Advisor know when it is time for employees to be retrained or certified on equipment · Check and verify HACCP Computer is registering proper temperature readings by validating the gauges with the laser thermometer. · Sanitizer Readings – Manager must verify personally or assign verification task to a designated Employee. · Check HACCP Computer Read Outs for day before. Ensure that there are not any questionable activities or critical readings and file the logs in appropriate folders. · Check Compressors; make sure all three are running. Check that both Boilers outside are running and temperatures are at 180 degrees. Manager can assign this to the mechanic to check prior to production, although Manager will verify task is being performed. · Verify all logs are being filled out and that staff understands the importance of each log and its purpose. · Processing Supervisor will perform all employee evaluations in a timely manner. · Document all incoming loads that do not adhere to critical limits in the Incoming Corrective Action Record. All incoming shell egg loads that do not adhere to critical limits must be inspected. If the deviation is a cause of inadequate reefer temperature settings beyond normal loading and unloading deviations then loads will be turned away. · All incoming product returns or red tag product must be logged on the Store return log sheet and filled out accurately with lot numbers, plant numbers, and reason for returns. Then log product in the receiving log. · Product return log must be turned in to your manager then must communicate with USDA by e mail about the incoming product returns. Product returns or red tags must be placed in the USDA holding area indicated by the assigned location only. Anything stored in this area must be documented on the disposition log. · Provide the leadership necessary to obtain the goals set by the team. · Continuously lead Safety, PM programs and other initiatives for the processing facility. · Maintain compliance with environmental regulatory agencies. · Verify and validate quality policy procedures. · Conduct monthly reviews of quality program. · Lead management team HACCP meetings, and insure proper resources are in place. · Lead continuous process improvement initiatives and mindset. · Be alert to better, more cost effective and efficient ways of running the processing operation. · Review processing reports, trend analysis and make decisions in order to maximize efficiency of processing operation. · Responsible for daily/weekly/monthly safety checks. · Support other safety matters throughout facility. Ensure that all employees are working safely. · Working with the Supervisor and Processing Leads, effectively manage the processing plant, including operating budget and capital investments related to processing. · Manage expenses and budget aspects of processing operations; focus on controlling processing labor costs. · Manage the effective scheduling of processing employees; minimizing costs and maximizing labor efficiencies. · Work with maintenance staff, vendors and contractors on matters of maintenance, repairs and supplies to ensure that the operation remains both technically sound and efficient. · Responsible for daily/weekly/monthly safety checks. · Maintain compliance with environmental, regulatory agencies and animal welfare standards. · Follow all USDA and OSHA regulations and procedures to keep the facilities in compliance. · Responsible for the Welfare of the birds · Implement and maintain the Biosecurity program to maintain a secure facility. The manager will be required to work with all management to maintain a bio-secure facility. · Recognizes and takes steps to prevent and resolve all production problems to minimize their impact on the operation. Able to diagnose problems and determine appropriate solutions. · Responds to emergency alarms. · Provide direct daily supervision of assigned direct reports to ensure accuracy and adherence to pertinent policies, practices, and procedures (SOP’s, safety procedures, and biosafety protocols) · Prioritize and schedule workload of assigned direct reports. · Partner with Human Resources to assist in the handling of disciplinary issues and drafting the appropriate personnel action documents. · Manage retraining and implement change with purpose and urgency. · Identify training and development needs of direct reports. Assist in the development, implementation and delivery of training programs. · Responsible for ensuring that all direct reports are trained on each essential job function for their positions, the training is effective, and an appropriate record of training has been documented for each essential job function. · Responsible for the documentation of training records of all tasks, policies, processes, and procedures that an employee is trained on. · Monitor and document the performance of direct reports. Assist and provide regular coaching and counseling. · Schedule overtime as authorized. Review timecards and manage with the coordination of vacation/time off schedules. · Recommend and implement techniques to improve productivity, increase efficiencies, cut costs, take advantage of opportunities, and maintain state of the art practices. · Assist in the communication, training, execution, and maintenance of departmental SOP’s and job descriptions. · Serve as a role model to subordinates as it relates to effective time management, communication, and utilization of resources, and provide leadership and motivation to department personnel. · Ensure that direct reports complete their timesheet daily and submit a completed timecard for approval on the last day worked each workweek. · Ensure that direct reports resolve all timecard, attestation, and payroll related matters and complete the attestation on the last day worked each workweek. · Ensure that direct reports have regular, consistent, and predictable attendance per Central Valley Eggs attendance and punctuality policy. · Properly complete timesheet daily and submit your completed timecard for approval on the last day worked each workweek. · Resolve all timecard, attestation, and payroll related matters and complete the attestation on the last day worked each workweek. · Regular, consistent, and predictable attendance per Central Valley Eggs attendance and punctuality policy. · Bilingual in English and Spanish, both written and verbal proficiency. · Other duties as assigned. English reading and writing abilities. · Knowledge of and ability to use computers, run reports complete accurate data entry and document information related to all reporting requirements of quality systems and SOPs. · Ability and availability to work weekdays and weekends. · Willingness to learn, grow and take on more responsibility as required. · Administration and Management — Knowledge of business and management principles involved in strategic planning, resource allocation, budgeting, human resources, leadership technique, production methods, and coordination of people and resources is preferred, not required. · Personnel and Human Resources — Knowledge of principles and procedures for personnel recruitment, selection, training, compensation and benefits, labor relations and negotiation, and personnel information systems is preferred, not required.
