Senior Healthcare Communications Specialist

Location: Austin, TX

Schedule: Full-Time, 40 hours/wk | Onsite; TEMP (182 days) TO HIRE

Compensation: $35.48 - $39.02/hour

Our client, a large public-sector healthcare benefits organization, is seeking a Senior Healthcare Communications Specialist to support communications strategy, member engagement initiatives, communications analytics, and outreach efforts related to employee and retiree health benefit programs.

This position is ideal for an experienced communications professional with a health plan, insurance, benefits administration, retirement system, or healthcare communications background who can quickly contribute with minimal training.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop and execute communication strategies that support health plan goals and improve stakeholder understanding of benefit programs, services, and resources.

• Create, review, edit, and manage member-facing and employer-facing communications, presentations, educational materials, and outreach content.

• Translate complex healthcare, insurance, and benefit plan information into clear, accurate, and actionable communications for school district leaders, benefits administrators, retirees, and participants.

• Lead communications projects from planning through execution, coordinating timelines, stakeholders, approvals, and deliverables.

• Manage communications governance processes and support continuous improvement of communication workflows and review procedures.

• Collaborate with internal teams, external vendors, and agency partners to ensure communications are accurate, compliant, timely, and aligned with organizational objectives.

• Review and oversee vendor-developed communications, presentations, and engagement materials.

• Analyze communication performance, engagement metrics, survey feedback, and stakeholder data to identify trends and recommend improvements.

• Develop reports, dashboards, and data visualizations using Excel, Power BI, Tableau, or similar reporting tools.

• Support webinars, training sessions, stakeholder meetings, conferences, and other engagement initiatives as needed.

• Create professional PowerPoint presentations and executive-level communication materials.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Communications, Public Relations, Marketing, Public Administration, Healthcare Administration, Public Health, or a related field.

• Minimum of five (5) years of experience in healthcare communications, benefits communications, marketing communications, public relations, stakeholder engagement, communications project management, or a related field.

• Minimum of two (2) years of experience supporting health plans, employee benefits programs, benefits administration, retirement systems, insurance organizations, healthcare organizations, or similar environments.

• Experience developing dashboards and reports using Excel, Power BI, Tableau, or similar tools.

• Experience supporting enrollment communications, member engagement initiatives, healthcare education campaigns, or benefits-related outreach programs.

• Experience working with external vendors and communication partners.
