FITNESS FLOOR STAFF

Position SummaryFitness Floor Staff are responsible for creating a safe, welcoming, and supportive wellness environment for all members. This role provides basic fitness assistance, ensures proper use of equipment, supports member engagement, and promotes YMCA wellness programs while upholding the YMCA core values of Caring, Honesty, Respect, and Responsibility.Essential FunctionsGreet members and create a positive, inclusive fitness environmentProvide basic instruction on the safe and proper use of fitness equipmentMonitor the fitness floor to ensure member safety and adherence to YMCA policiesAssist members with general fitness questions and direct them to appropriate programs or staffMaintain cleanliness and organization of the fitness area and equipmentReport equipment concerns, safety issues, or incidents promptlySupport emergency procedures and respond appropriately to incidentsPromote YMCA wellness programs, classes, and personal training opportunitiesMaintain accurate participation or usage logs as requiredYMCA Competencies (Leader)Mission Advancement: Models YMCA values and promotes healthy livingCollaboration: Builds positive relationships with members and staffOperational Effectiveness: Maintains a safe, organized, and efficient fitness environmentPersonal Growth: Demonstrates willingness to learn and improveChild Abuse Prevention verbiage:Employees and volunteers who directly supervise consumers will:Adhere to policies related to boundaries with consumers.Attend required abuse risk management training.Adhere to procedures related to managing high-risk activities and supervising consumers.Report suspicious or inappropriate behaviors and policy violations.Follow mandated abuse reporting requirements.Employees and volunteers who do not directly supervise consumers will:Adhere to policies related to boundaries with consumers.Attend required abuse risk management training.Report suspicious and inappropriate behaviors and policy violations.Follow mandated abuse reporting requirements.Adhere to job specific abuse risk management responsibilities.Maintenance employees, fitness floor staff and volunteers—ensure unused rooms and closets remain locked; routinely monitor high-risk locations (locker-rooms and bathrooms), etc.QualificationsHigh school diploma or equivalent preferredPrevious fitness, wellness, or customer service experience preferredKnowledge of basic fitness principles and equipment usageStrong interpersonal and communication skillsAbility to work independently and as part of a teamCPR/AED and First Aid certification required (or ability to obtain within a specified timeframe)Work ScheduleFlexible availability required, including mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidaysPhysical DemandsAbility to stand and walk for extended periodsAbility to demonstrate basic fitness movementsAbility to lift and move equipment up to 50 poundsAbility to respond quickly in emergency situationsEqual Opportunity EmployerThe YMCA of South Alabama is an equal opportunity employer and values diversity.
