Database Administrator - PostgreSQL

Position Summary CANDIDATE SPONSORSHIP IS NOT AVAILABLE FOR THIS ROLE. CANDIDATE MUST RESIDE IN THE UNITED STATES, PREFERABLY RESIDING IN EST/EASTERN TIME ZONE. We are looking for an experienced, self‑motivated PostgreSQL Database Administrator. The role involves developing best practices for database deployment, managing daily operations including break/fix, capacity management, backup and recovery, replication setup, and reviewing database changes. The candidate will build and maintain large‑scale, high‑transaction PostgreSQL databases in both public and private cloud installations and collaborate with other teams to produce documentation and specifications. Job Duties / Key Accountabilities Provision PostgreSQL instances, both in clustered and non‑clustered configurations. Ensure performance, security, and availability of databases. Implement and maintain replication strategies. Analyze performance and implement improvements. Prepare documentation and specifications. Manage database software (patch and version management). Handle common database procedures, such as backup, recovery, migration, etc. Profile server resource usage, optimize and tweak as necessary. Collaborate with team members and stakeholders. Write scripts to generate ad‑hoc reports and perform data audits using Bash or Python. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Provide 24/7 support of production databases. Qualifications Required: Strong proficiency in PostgreSQL database management and optimization. Experience managing large‑scale PostgreSQL databases. Understanding of PostgreSQL user access and authentication processes and controls. Experience with replication configuration in PostgreSQL. Hands‑on experience designing and implementing database replication strategies. Knowledge of de‑facto standards and best practices in PostgreSQL. Proficient in writing and optimizing SQL statements. Knowledge of PostgreSQL features such as pgagent or pgbouncer. Ability to plan resource requirements from high‑level specifications. Knowledge of PostgreSQL limitations and their workarounds compared to other relational databases. Experience administering Debian or Ubuntu Linux. Able to work under pressure and multi‑task. Pro‑active, dedicated, committed, and responsible. Desired: Experience managing MySQL or SQL Server. Ubuntu system administration. Experience with Redis. Experience with Zabbix. Experience with RabbitMQ. Industry experience in iLottery or iGaming. Education Bachelor’s degree in computer science with 5+ years experience with PostgreSQL. Master’s degree with 3+ years experience. Certified PostgreSQL DBA is a plus.
