Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) - FT - 7am-7pm or 7pm-7am

STGi is seeking a Certified Nursing Assistant to provide services at the Georgia War Veterans Home.

The general duty of the Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) is to provide residents with routine daily nursing care and services in accordance with the resident's assessment and care plan and as directed by supervisors.

Essential functions include:

  • Recording all entries on flow sheets, notes, charts, etc., in an informative and descriptive manner.
  • Reporting all changes in the resident's condition to the Charge Nurse/Nurse Supervisor as soon as practical.
  • Weighing residents in accordance with his/her plan of care.
  • Reporting any significant weight loss or weight gain to the Charge Nurse/Nurse Supervisor in accordance with facility policies.
  • Measuring residents' temperature, pulse, respirations, blood pressure, weight, intake, output and food consumption and documenting in the official medical record.
  • Keeping residents' water pitchers clean and filled with fresh water on each shift and within easy reach of the resident.
  • Preparing residents for meals (i.e., take to bathroom, wash hands, comb hair, raise bed, position tables, place bibs, take to/from dining room, etc.).
  • Recording the resident's food/fluid intake; reporting changes in the resident's eating habits.
  • Assisting residents in accordance to their needs ranging from minimal assistance to total dependent care on activities of daily living (ADLs).
  • Contributing to the development and implementation of interventions in accordance with the resident's needs/goals for care preferences and recognize standards of practice that address the identified limitations in ability to perform ADLs.
  • Monitoring and evaluating the resident's response to care plan interventions and treatments in accordance with facility policies.
  • Caring for residents with mental and psychosocial disorders as well as residents with history of trauma and/or post-traumatic stress disorder and who have been identified in the facility policies.
  • Assisting in preparing the resident for exams, tests and procedures; providing support or escorting residents to appointments.
  • Assisting in transporting residents to/from appointments, activity and social programs, etc., as necessary.
  • Assisting residents with bowel and bladder functions (i.e., take to bathroom, offer bedpan/urinal, portable commode, etc.).
  • Assisting residents with dressing/undressing as necessary.
  • Assisting residents with personal grooming (i.e., combing, brushing, shampooing, etc.).
  • Assisting non-diabetic residents with nail care including clipping, trimming, cleaning the fingers, fingernails and.
  • Assisting with lifting, turning, moving, positioning and transporting residents into and out of beds, chairs, bathtubs, wheelchairs, lifts,
  • Assisting with the application of nonsterile (moist and dry) warm/cold compress.
  • Assisting with the application of slings, elastic bandages, binders, etc.
  • Supporting the resident through meaningful activities that match his or her individual abilities by simplifying or segmenting tasks for residents who have trouble following complex directions based upon the comprehensive assessment.
  • Changing bed linens in resident rooms.
  • Checking and reporting bowel movements and character of stools as instructed.
  • Checking each resident routinely to ensure that his/her personal care needs are being met in accordance with his/her wishes.
  • Collecting specimens as instructed (i.e., urine, sputum, stools, etc.).
  • Maintaining intake and output records as instructed.
  • Observing and reporting the presence of pressure areas and skin breakdowns to prevent pressure injuries.
  • Attending change of shift reports.
  • Performing restorative and rehabilitative procedures as instructed in accordance with the individualized plan of care.
  • Providing non-pharmacological interventions for pain in accordance with the plan of care.
  • Providing daily range of motion (ROM) exercises; recording data as instructed.
  • Providing eye and ear care (i.e., warm/cold compresses, eye/ear instillation, cleaning eyeglasses/hearing aids, etc.) as instructed.
  • Reporting injuries of an unknown source including skin tears.
  • Greeting residents and escorting them to their room; providing new resident orientation to the unit/facility.
  • Assisting nurses with admission, transfer and discharge functions.
  • Introducing resident to his/her roommate (if any), other residents and personnel as appropriate.
  • Inventorying and marking the resident's personal possessions as instructed; updating and revising the personal inventory list as appropriate.

Required experience includes:

  • Legally eligible to work in the United States.
  • Ability to assess patient condition, recognizes adverse signs and symptoms, and reacts swiftly in emergency situations.
  • Knowledge of the basic concepts of customer service technique related to age-specific population.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills along with proper telephone.
  • Knowledge of specialized terminology associated with the work in the facility and in-depth knowledge of the terminology used.
  • Excellent customer service skills.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office Software, Electronic Medical Records, and computer maneuverability.
  • Must be detailed oriented and have the ability to multi-task.
  • Must be competent to provide nursing and nursing related services and has completed a training and competency evaluation program, or a competency evaluation program approved by the State of Georgia.
  • Must possess at a minimum High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Must be a licensed Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) in accordance with laws in the state of Georgia.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain an active American Heart Association BLS certification.
