Maintenance ElectricianUnder the general direction, performs journey level electrical work in installing, connecting, maintaining, repairing, modifying, trouble shooting and testing electrical wiring lines, fixtures, distribution panels, power and control circuits and numerous electrical equipment; may serve as lead electrician on most work assignments; performs related work as assigned.Performs the more complex electrical work assignments, involving the repair, installation, and modification of electrical distribution lines used in supplying a wide range of electrical voltage and power; plans and lays out approaches in trouble shooting faults and/or defects in the electrical line with little guidance or supervisory direction; lays out work plan according to prescribed drawings, sketches, blue prints, wiring diagrams, and technical manuals; assures safe operation of all new and existing electrical lines, circuits and controls replaced and/or repaired.Performs preventative maintenance, repairs or replacement of electrical motors; tests circuitry on various controls on equipment failure; upgrades electrical apparatus; replaces bearings on motors; troubleshoots and repairs solar systems; maintains, repairs and replaces light fixtures, ballasts, sockets, starters, outlets, and photo cells; inspects the work produced by other electricians.Services, installs or replaces transformers, breakers, capacitors, fuses, thermostats, heating elements, contractors, relays and heat tapes; maintains, repairs or replaces large or complicated (HCAC) heating and cooling units, boilers, and air handlers, completes estimates of materials and labor; order supplies and materials; completes work order forms.To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.Minimum Requirements: High school diploma or general education degree (GED; and (4) four years of progressive responsible journeyman level commercial or residential electrical installing and repair experience.Preferred Qualifications: Experience reading and interpreting blue prints; and Familiar with the most updated NationalAbility to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of electrical variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.Knowledge of National Electrical CodeKnowledge of technical electrical contracting methods, practices and procedures.Knowledge of the repair of electrical motors and systems.Knowledge of the building codes and regulations related to electrical installation.Knowledge of occupational safety and health regulations and practices.Knowledge of equipment, supplies and specialty tools related to electrician trade.Knowledge of sources of supply, prices, and grades and qualities of a variety of materials, supplies and equipment.Knowledge of project management and cost estimation.Skills in safely installing, repairing and replacing electrical wiring systems.Skills in safely utilizing a variety of power and hand tools.Skill in estimating costs of materials and labor.Skill in scheduling and managing projects.Skill in inspecting electrical work for compliance with National Electrical Code.Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships.While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear, to use hands to finger, handle or feel objects, operate power tools or controls, and reach with hands and arms. The employee is frequently required to stand, walk, bend and sit, and is required to climb or balance and stoop or kneel. The employee will occasionally be required to climb ladders. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to ten pounds, and regularly lift and/or move up to fifty pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, and the ability to adjust focus.
