Summary

This role is designed to educate participants on potato production, storage methods, variety development, and manufacturing processes within our Food Division and prepare you to take on a management role with Simplot. As a Management Trainee, you will learn about potato production, not by reading about it, but by participating in the actual processes involved in potato production at various commercial production areas throughout the US. The Management Trainee will participate in all phases necessary to produce high quality potatoes for the J.R. Simplot Food Group. This includes variety selection, trialing various agronomic principles, sampling techniques, planting, growing, harvesting, storage management, and data collection. You will receive periodic evaluations to monitor progress to ensure your understanding of the projects you participate in. The intent of this program is to give the Management Trainee the basic skill set of an employee in the Raw Departments. Trainees that excel in the program will be considered for future vacancies within the organization.

Key Responsibilities

• Crop Progress Samples: Help direct and perform crop progress samples. Enter crop notes, comments, and pictures into Field Scouter. Support direct harvest operations through field sampling under direction of Field Representatives. Compile data from crop progress samples into weekly crop progress report.
• Raw Development/Sustainability: Assist Agronomy Managers or Senior Manager on special projects and Support Psyllid Trapping network (WA and OR). Support Ag Sustainability Manager on other projects.
• Storage Management: Assist Raw Planner with compiling storage grade data and development of Book of Raw Product. Help oversee company storages and monitor for storability concerns.
• Administrative: Support Senior Raw Manager on Projects and Track and Compile Raw Divisional reports and statistics.

Bachelor's Degree (B.A. or B.S.) from 4 year college or university

Bachelor's degree (in Agronomy, Crop Science, Soils, Plant Pathology, Ag Business/Economics or related field). Equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered for meeting the minimum requirements. Experience in Crop Production preferably in Potatoes but not mandatory. Willingness to travel throughout the U.S.
