Nurse Practitioner, High Risk Genetic Testing

The Nurse Practitioner of the High-Risk Genetic Testing Program will determine individual or family risk for a variety of genetic testing mutations.

The responsibilities include acting as a liaison or advocate for patients carrying a genetic trait or have an inherited disease, being a resource for physicians in identifying genetic structures to reach a definitive diagnosis, initiating consultations to provide information and support to families in which a member is diagnosed with a genetic mutation or is at risk or prone to certain inherited diseases, identifying families at risk in the community investigating the problem, analyzing the inheritance pattern and probability of occurrence or recurrence, then interpreting the information gathered to the families concerning the mutation and discuss and order any further testing or treatment available, reporting to the Medical Director of High-Risk Genetic Testing Program and Breast Services and collaborating daily with her on scope of practice, seeing patients at the Cuda Women's Health Center or other areas of the CCHC organization where such patients may be seen, keeping the physicians informed of all patients being seen so appropriate physician review and involvement can be insured, participating in patient follow up program as assigned or requested, working collaboratively and cooperatively with all physicians, nurses and ancillary staff members of the Center, assuring that the patient's rights as identified by the institution are met, communicating all data relevant to patient and/or family needs to the health care team, coordinating patient care with other health team members by documentation and communicating data for patients with common well-defined diagnosis/patient problem to provide continuity of care, helping conduct research related to genetic conditions or genetic counseling, contributing to the Women's Health program through participation in community activities, consistently providing service excellence to all patients, family members, visitors, volunteers and co-workers in a manner that reflects Cape Cod Hospital's commitment to CARES: compassion, accountability, respect, excellence and service.

Insurance: The advanced practice staff shall, at all times, carry professional malpractice liability insurance with average of at least $1,000,000 per claim. Consultation: If, at any time during the course of a client's evaluation or treatment, the advanced practice identifies the patient's care to be beyond the scope of the Nurse Practitioner's expertise, consultation will occur with the supervising physician.

Qualifications: Ability to read, write and communicate in English. MA-RN License. MA licensure as a Nurse Practitioner. Master degree in Nursing. Mass Controlled Substances Registration. Certification in Genetic Testing from a nationally recognized accredited program within one (1) year of hire. Advanced practice Nurse Practitioner certification in Women's Health. Recommend CEU'S to meet certification requirement. BLS current certification required. Recommend ACLS current certification. At least six (6) months practice as a Nurse Practitioner.

Schedule Details: 4 Day Work Week (0.8 FTE), Rotating Days, Monday-Friday, No Weekends, & No Holidays
