FULL TIME Position Summary Florida Medical Clinic Orlando Health Job Title: Phlebotomist Schedule Hours: Monday - Friday 8:15am - 5:15pm Department: Lab Location: 38111 Market Square Drive, Zephyrhills, FL This position is expected to function independently or with minimal supervision in all laboratory areas and duties including but not limited to performing phlebotomy, specimen processing, and clerical duties, all performed in a timely and efficient manner. Responsibilities Front Office Functions Perform start‑up duties prior to opening the lab. Add tests for add‑ons and handle recollects or properly charge STATs to HMO’s. Copy insurance cards and use proper stamps on orders such as FROZEN, LabCorp, Quest. Print daily logs, handle petty cash, faxes reports from the previous day, and drug screen collections. Quote lab prices, make deposits, print labels for requisitions and specimens. Properly obtain ABN forms for Medicare patients. Obtain orders from Intergy or patients, use valid diagnosis codes, and identify patients accurately. Collect payments from patients and issue receipts. Challenge ambiguous orders and handle them according to protocol, including verbal orders. Verify patient insurance information. Provide services to patients and doctors’ offices such as lab results. Direct incoming faxes to correct personnel, answer phones, assist callers, and properly transfer calls. Call or fax any panic or STAT results to the appropriate provider per written protocol. Maintain optimal productivity with minimal errors. Understand and perform assigned tasks, mastering new work routines as needed. Show degree of willingness to perform these tasks. Phlebotomy Verify orders and requisitions match, checking all tests. Ensure ABN is properly filled out and signed. Label specimens properly and provide required information on requisitions. Draw 6–8 patients an hour (35 to 40 patients per day). Rarely use a butterfly; seek assistance before use. Keep requisitions filed in folders and assist with preparing the folders for scanning. Provide phlebotomy services to doctors’ offices when needed, such as special procedures and family practice. Back Office Prepare reports for distribution and load any specimens passed through. Supply missing billing information such as diagnosis to remote labs. Work internal billing charges, no more than three days behind. Keep daily requisitions filed correctly and neatly. Maintain outstanding tests reports and error logs for LabCorp and Quest. Retrieve results and transmit requisitions as needed. Direct incoming mail to correct personnel, perform mail‑outs daily, and verify correct addresses for outside providers. Processing Specimens Spin down specimens when needed, checking for fibrinogen and clots. Pour off any specimens required for special transport tubes. Prepare specimens for transportation with couriers. Distribute and handle STATs according to protocol. Perform “clean‑outs” in Flex‑e Suite. Inventory Maintain an accurate inventory of supplies. Distribute supplies to remote labs as needed. Keep the supply area neat and clutter‑free. Maintain consistent attendance in accordance with Orlando Health policies, ADA, FMLA, and other standards. Ensure compliance with all Orlando Health policies and procedures. Perform all other duties as assigned. Computer Utilization Locate and print results in Intergy, Flex‑e Suite, LCM; print patient demographics and insurance cards. Load insurances into Intergy and set proper coverage. Create requisitions in Clinicians for LabCorp, Quest, LIS. Retrieve and transmit results. Print billing reports or work lists for STAT, MAIL, and fax logs. Register new patients in Intergy or modify existing information. Properly load drug studies. Perform “clean‑outs” in Flex‑e Suite. Other Related Functions Maintain an organized and clean work area. Place phones on and off service at the appropriate times. Participate in maintaining office supplies. Perform other incidental and related duties as required and assigned. Travel to different FMC locations as needed. Maintain consistent attendance and compliance with all policies. Perform all other duties as assigned. Qualifications Education/Training High School Graduate or equivalent. Licensure/Certification Phlebotomist Certification. Experience Minimum of one year phlebotomy experience. Strong customer service orientation. Excellent telephone etiquette. Strong computer proficiency. Strong team player. Excellent phlebotomy skills.
