This role is part of Advanced Concepts and Enterprise Engineering (ACE) supporting Blue Origins mission of millions of people living and working in space for the benefit of Earth. The team fosters innovation and drives engineering workflows of the future shared solutions and standards simplicity and lower costs and manufacturable design.

As part of a small passionate team of experts you will be responsible for organizing and executing plans to characterize material samples using a variety of laboratory tests and this hands-on position youll work with engineers scientists and other technicians to validate the materials and processes used to build rocket position will directly impact the history of space exploration and will require your dedicated commitment and detailed attention towards safe and repeatable spaceflight. We seek people who are passionate about space and possess a strong desire to continuously learn and improve. This position is based in Huntsville AL.

Responsibilities:

• Perform laboratory analyses including tensile testing hardness testing metallographic preparation and microstructural evaluation per requests provided by internal customers
• Analyze document and communicate results to stakeholders
• Demonstrate strict attention to detail in executing laboratory analyses
• Maintain laboratory equipment and facilities
• Safely work with hazardous systems containing chemicals heat and/or high pressure

Must be physically able to:

• Work with and around chemicals and other hazardous materials
• Wear appropriate PPE when needed

Qualifications:

• 4 years experience in analytical/characterization/testing laboratory environment required for Senior
• Hands-on experience executing test plans
• Basic engineering laboratory skills: weights and measures calculations chemical hygiene materials safety planning personal protective equipment contamination control job hazard analysis and work instruction
• Strong written and personal computer skills
• Must be a U.S. citizen or national U.S. permanent resident (current Green Card holder) or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum.

Desired:

• Experience using equipment used for a variety of techniques (specimen preparation optical microscopy microhardness testing mechanical testing etc.). Certifications are a plus but not required.
• Familiarity with typical aerospace testing and quality processes (AS9100 FOD Control Lean 5S etc.)
• Experience in forensic analysis of materials via SEM FT-IR etc.
• Knowledge of the types of materials and processes used to fabricate aerospace components
• Ability to operate manual machine tools (saws mills etc.)

• Required for certain Job Profiles: Ability to obtain and maintain Merchant Mariner Credential which includes pre-employment and random drug testing as well as DOT physical
