Entry level classification for purpose of acquiringtraining to achieve Arizona Peace Officer Standards and Training Board (AZ POST) certification. Duration not to exceed 10 months. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: The duties listed below represent the various types of work that may be performed. This is not a comprehensive listing of all functions and duties performed by incumbents. Essential duties and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the following: As a Police Recruit you will: Attend a minimum of a twenty-two week training program under the supervision of instructors in a police academy approved by AZ POST to acquire the minimum and skills necessary to perform in Police Officer classification. Read and study instructional or informational material in order to achieve elementary working knowledge. Prepare and take written physical tests to prove knowledge and skill levels. Receive field training from certified Field Training Officer (FTO), utilizing and applying knowledge from classroom work; receive evaluations from FTO to track progress. Obtain certification upon meeting AZ POST established minimum standards and passing required examinations (or waiver examinations) within a six-month period. IDEAL CANDIDATE Possess skills in: Analytical, objective observance of situations and quick decision-making. Managing situations firmly, courteously, tactfully, and impartially. Recording information accurately and completely. Will possess ability to: Serve our community with courtesy and respect. Pass written and physical agility examination. Pass oral board interview. Pass polygraph examination and drug test. Successfully pass a comprehensive background investigation including credit check, polygraph and psychological examination and meet the minimum POST standards for medical examination and physical ability. MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS Education, Training, and Experience: A High School Diploma or G.E.D. equivalent. License and Certifications: All requirements/license must be maintained throughout employment. A valid Arizona Driver's License at the time of appointment Must meet Arizona Peace Officer Standards and Training (AZ POST) and City of San Luis standards for appointment as a Police Officer Special requirements: Residency in the United States and within 25 miles of the City of San Luis Must be a U.S. Citizen Must be at least 21 years of age by the time of graduation from the Police Academy Desired/Preferred: Bilingual in Spanish San Luis, Arizona residency SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION The physical and mental demands described here are representative of those that must be met by employees to successfully perform the essential functions of this class. Dependent premiums are paid one month in advance and are pre-taxed. Additional information regarding medical, dental and vision benefits may be requested from the Human Resources Department. ARIZONA STATE RETIREMENT SYSTEM (ASRS) - City employees are required to enroll in the Arizona State Retirement System. Employee Contribution - 11.86% Employer Contribution - 11.86% ARIZONA STATE RETIREMENT SYSTEM (ASRS) - LONG TERM DISABILITY (LTD) Employee Contribution - .014% Employer Contribution - .014% SOCIAL SECURITY AND MEDICARE- FICA (Social Security Tax) - Employee Contribution- 6.20% Medicare - Employee Contribution - 1.4500%. PAID TIME OFF (PTO) - Vacation Leave Accruals (Based on years of service and accrued on bi-weekly basis) Less than 6 years - 3.08 hrs. 6 - 11 years - 4.62 hrs. 11 years or more - 6.16 hrs. Sick Leave - 3.69 hrs. LIFE INSURANCE - The City provides eligible employees with a Life Insurance and Accidental Death and Dismemberment (AD&D) benefit. This plan is administered by Standard. Basic Life Benefit - $50,000.00 AD&D Benefit - $50,000.00 DISABILITY INSURANCE - Disability insurance is available to all employees who work 30 or more hours per week. Short-Term Disability - Coverage begins on the 15th day of injury or sickness. Duration of Benefits - 180 days Benefits Percentage- 66.67% Waiting Period - 14 days Maximum Weekly Benefit: $2,000.00 WORKER'S COMP - Insurance coverage for medical expenses and loss of income due to an on-the-job injury is provided by the City of San Luis for all employees. 01 What's you're highest level of education?
