JOB SUMMARY:

The Instructional Coach is a critical lever for improving student achievement by building teacher capacity and strengthening instructional practice. Instructional Coaches support educators through collaboration reflection and job-embedded professional learning focused on high-quality teaching and learning.

Instructional Coaches model continuous improvement lifelong learning and a deep commitment to student success. They work collaboratively as a team with members of the Division of Teaching & Learning and the Office of Professional Learning to promote effective instructional practices across the district.

This role emphasizes reflection strengths-based coaching collaboration and addressing shared instructional challenges. Instructional Coaches ensure high-quality instruction through modeling co-planning co-teaching and providing non-evaluative feedback to teachers. This is not a supervisory position and does not include evaluation of colleagues.

REQUISITE EDUCATION AND SKILLS:

• Bachelors degree or higher from an accredited college or university
• Valid Virginia Department of Education teaching license with any endorsement
• Minimum of five (5) years of successful teaching experience including demonstrated impact on student achievement and experience working with students with the greatest needs
• Proven ability to collaborate effectively with colleagues and foster a professional community of adult learners
• Demonstrated leadership skills and strong interpersonal abilities including giving and receiving constructive feedback
• Proficiency in using student-level data to guide instructional decisions
• Evidence of teacher leadership
• Strong pedagogical knowledge and content expertise
• Excellent oral and written communication skills
• Commitment to continuous improvement and lifelong learning
• Evidence of professional growth through leadership roles and participation in high-quality professional development

ESSENTIAL JOB RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES: (including but not limited to the following:

School Leadership and Administration

• Assist the Principal in the overall leadership administration supervision and management of the school and in collaboration with other school administrators provide administrative leadership in the Principals absence as assigned.
• Support the development implementation and monitoring of school improvement goals instructional priorities division initiatives and school procedures.
• Supervise and evaluate assigned staff and support student discipline attendance behavioral interventions student services and other school operations.
• Support school safety emergency preparedness student supervision and the effective operation of the school.
• Foster a positive collaborative inclusive and results-oriented school culture focused on student learning staff growth and continuous improvement.
• Maintain effective communication and productive working relationships with students families staff division leaders and community stakeholders.

Instructional Leadership and Coaching

• Provide schoolwide leadership for curriculum instruction and the implementation of division instructional initiatives.
• Coach and support teachers and collaborative teams through modeling observation and feedback collaborative planning reflection and job-embedded professional learning.
• Support teachers with lesson planning pacing differentiation assessment instructional strategies and the effective use of resources to address diverse student learning needs.
• Facilitate collaborative teams in analyzing student learning identifying instructional needs and determining appropriate instructional responses.
• Conduct classroom observations learning walks and instructional rounds to monitor instructional practices identify trends and provide actionable feedback to support professional growth and student achievement.
• Design coordinate and facilitate professional learning aligned with student and staff needs instructional priorities and school improvement goals.
• Monitor the implementation and effectiveness of curriculum instructional programs resources and schoolwide initiatives and recommend adjustments based on identified needs and student outcomes.

Assessment Testing and Data Leadership

• Lead and coordinate the administration of state federal division and school-based assessments in accordance with applicable requirements and established procedures.
• Oversee assessment schedules staff training accommodations test security materials documentation required notifications and reporting in collaboration with division testing staff.
• Coordinate the implementation of school-based assessment programs including state-reported performance and alternate assessments as applicable.
• Analyze multiple sources of student achievement data to identify trends strengths learning gaps and areas requiring additional instructional support.
• Lead collaborative data analysis and support staff in using assessment results to inform instruction intervention professional learning and school improvement.
• Support the development and use of formative common benchmark and other assessments aligned with curriculum standards and student learning needs.

Intervention and Student Achievement

• Provide leadership for the schools academic intervention processes and multi-tiered system of support.
• Collaborate with teachers interventionists specialists and student support staff to identify students requiring additional academic support and develop appropriate interventions.
• Facilitate data and intervention meetings and monitor the implementation documentation progress and effectiveness of student interventions.
• Coordinate school-based remediation intervention and extended learning programs and evaluate their effectiveness based on student outcomes.
• Promote alignment among core instruction assessment intervention special education multilingual learner services and other student supports.
• Collaborate with school staff to support students experiencing attendance challenges by monitoring academic impact identifying learning gaps associated with missed instructional time coordinating targeted academic supports and monitoring student progress toward successful re-engagement.

• Perform other duties as assigned by the Principal Superintendent or designee to support the effective operation of the school and school division.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

This position operates in a professional school environment that includes classrooms gymnasiums cafeterias auditoriums and outdoor learning or recreational areas. The work environment involves noise levels that may range from low to moderate and requires frequent walking standing and movement throughout the school day. Occasional climbing kneeling or crouching may also be required. Periods of sitting are common while preparing lessons grading assignments or completing administrative tasks.

The position may require lifting or moving instructional materials classroom supplies or equipment weighing up to 10 pounds on a regular basis and occasionally up to 25 pounds or more. Regular use of computers interactive whiteboards projectors printers and other instructional technologies is required to support teaching and learning.

Clear verbal communication active listening and visual attentiveness are essential for delivering instruction and ensuring student safety. The role involves daily interaction with students and regular collaboration with colleagues administrators and families. Occasional travel between school sites or participation in supervised field trips may also be required.

Teachers must be able to manage multiple responsibilities and adapt to the demands of a dynamic fast-paced educational environment.
