Shelter Custodian
A local charitable organization is seeking a temporary Shelter Custodian to maintain cleanliness and sanitation in their facility. The Shelter Custodian plays a crucial role in ensuring a safe, welcoming, and hygienic environment for residents, staff, and visitors.
Job Duties:
May include but not limited to the following:
- Perform routine cleaning and sanitizing of common areas, restrooms, kitchens, offices, and resident spaces
- Sweep, mop, vacuum, and dust all designated areas
- Empty trash and recycling bins regularly and ensure proper disposal
- Restock supplies such as paper towels, soap, and toilet paper in restrooms and common areas
- Assist with basic maintenance tasks, such as replacing light bulbs or reporting repairs
- Ensure compliance with health and safety regulations, including proper handling of cleaning chemicals
- Respond to urgent cleaning needs as required
- Maintain inventory of cleaning supplies and report shortages to the supervisor
- Follow all organizational policies and procedures
Requirements:
- Previous custodial or janitorial experience
- Ability to work independently and efficiently
- Attention to detail and commitment to maintaining a clean and safe space
- Ability to lift 50 lbs and perform repetitive physical tasks
- Strong communication skills and a positive, team-oriented attitude
- Willingness to work with diverse populations in a shelter setting
Pay: $19.24/hour
