Experience in the medical/surgical setting with cardiac monitoring required. This is a very small unit/facility, rural experience is preferred. Must be able to work independently/hit the ground running! Client will not consider any candidate who resides within 50 miles of facility.

Patient Population: Newborn - Geriatric

RN/Patient Ratio: 5:1, depending on acuity. Higher acuity PCU patients would be 3:1 or 4:1. This is for both day and night shifts.

Call and Call-Back: Not applicable for this need

Facility will not consider candidates who reside within 50 miles of facility.

Unit Details:

Uniform: Personal scrubs (Any color)

Procedures: RN telemetry unit procedures focus on continuous cardiac monitoring to ensure early detection of heart rhythm abnormalities and rapid intervention. Nurses prepare patients by verifying orders, identifying patients, performing skin prep, and correctly placing ECG electrodes to obtain accurate tracings. Telemetry RNs initiate and maintain monitoring, set alarm limits, and continuously assess vital signs and cardiac rhythms. They interpret EKGs, promptly respond to alarms, distinguish true events from artifacts, and document findings and interventions in the EHR. Responsibilities also include administering cardiac medications, assisting with emergency responses and procedures such as cardioversion, and providing close pre- and post-procedure monitoring. Patient and family education on telemetry equipment, safety, and fall prevention is essential, along with troubleshooting and maintaining monitoring equipment to ensure patient safety.

Unit Description: An RN in a Telemetry unit cares for patients who require continuous cardiac monitoring but do not need ICU-level care. Using ECG and vital sign monitoring systems, telemetry nurses track heart rhythms and detect early signs of cardiac instability. They interpret EKG strips, respond to alarms, administer medications and treatments, and provide rapid intervention during cardiac events. Telemetry RNs commonly care for post-cardiac procedure patients and those with heart failure, arrhythmias, or stroke. The unit serves as a step-down from ICU or step-up from medical-surgical floors, requiring strong assessment skills, quick clinical judgment, and ongoing patient and family education for recovery and discharge.
