Radiology Aide

Overview Under general supervision of Manager Medical Imaging, performs a variety of functions to assist in the daily operation of the Diagnostic Imaging division, including transportation of patients requiring radiographic procedures, preparing patient and room for examinations, preparing exposed radiographic images, assisting in maintaining inventory of supplies and cleanliness of the work area, pick-up and delivery of supplies for the department, assisting the radiographer in portable radiographic procedures, and completing forms and data entry. All essential functions reflect the age-specific needs of adult and geriatric patients. Responsibilities Assist radiographer with portable radiographic procedures and with patients as needed. Prepare patients for radiographic procedures; lift and position patients as required. Verify correct patient identification and proper workflow. Provide radiology transport services for patients and equipment; secure transport equipment as needed (stretcher, wheelchair, IV pole, oxygen, linen, etc.). Clean and prepare stretchers before and after use; prepare the room for procedures. Foster patient- and family-centered care within the department's mission and policies; consider age-specific needs of adult and geriatric patients. Maintain quality assurance, safety, environmental, and infection control in accordance with hospital policies. Perform other related duties as required. Minimum Qualifications Equivalent to high school diploma. Able to interact effectively with patients, visitors and hospital staff. Able to read and write English and perform basic arithmetic for shipments, charge information on Radiology requisitions, and stock reconciliation. Interpersonal and language skills to exchange information with hospital personnel, patients, visitors, and vendors. Demonstrated knowledge to provide care considering aging processes and cultural patterns. Experience Minimum of three months' experience, preferably in a patient-care setting. Knowledge of medical terminology preferred. Healthcare environment such as acute care hospitals, physicians’ offices and ancillary healthcare enterprises. Works with medical and office equipment; has direct patient contact. Adheres to safety procedures and precautions.
